Workshop Details
Workshop 1: Misconceptions in Maths
This workshop aims to identify some of the key misconceptions that are barriers to becoming fluent in mathematics
and to try out some strategies, such as flash cards, to help a student gain confidence in overcoming some of the more
common misconceptions.
The outcomes for colleagues are:
 to have a wider set of potential strategies and ideas of how to help students overcome some of their
misconceptions with key mathematical skills; and
 to network with colleagues to share good practices beyond the event.
Workshop 2: Positive Behaviour for Learning
The workshop is designed for staff in both primary and secondary phases and will focus on the role of support staff in
modelling positive behaviour, teaching positive behaviour and responding to inappropriate behaviour.
The workshop aims to:
• equip delegates with increased self-awareness of the effect of their own behavior;
• provide practical strategies for communicating positive expectations ; and
• provide responses to inappropriate behaviour that work.
Workshop 3: Behaviour (Team Teach)
This workshop will provide a brief introduction to the Team Teach training programme in positive handling,
developed to enable staff to feel more confident and competent in their management of disruptive and
challenging behaviour, reducing stress by increasing safety for all involved. The Team Teach course is designed
to provide guidance for staff who are likely to use a restrictive physical intervention in the course of their
work.
The workshop aims to:
 help staff identify and understand what function pupils’ behaviour serves;
 provide information on Duty of Care and The Legal Framework;
 provide information on Policy and Documentation needed in schools, services and settings around use
of Restrictive Physical Interventions; and
 give a recognition of Circles of Danger and Body Language.
Workshop 4: E-Safety
The workshop will look at the issues affecting young people and staff in schools in regards to staying safe on
line. It will look at the ways young people use technology, the issues arising and how to go about dealing
with these. Participants will:
• gain an understanding of the issues affecting young people in an on line world;
• learn about the resources that will support developing children’s awareness and behavior; and
• learn about the issues that affect professionals in the educational environment.
Workshop 5: Using technology to support learners and learning
The workshop will look at how technology can be used as a tool to help support learning in classrooms by both
staff and learners. It will look at a range of easy to use pieces of software and iPad applications that can have
immediate impact on classroom practice to support learners, engage in content creation and allow staff to make
learning more personal. Participants will:
 understand how technology can support learning and teaching; and
 gain practical experience of a range of tools to help enhance learning in the classroom.
