The business case describes the background, key assumption & constraints, cost-benefit analysis and risk assessment for the project. (Executive Summary, 2005, p. 33) RECOMMENDATION “Given that a good rate of return is anticipated with no undue risk, it is recommended to proceed with this project.” (Recommendation, 2005, p. 15) AIM OF THE PROJECT The aim of the project is to redesign the ITT Technical Institute North Charleston Area Campus employee lunch room with an opening date in January 2015. BACKGROUND “The ITT Technical Institute is an institution of higher learning that is committed to offering quality undergraduate and continuing education locally, nationally and worldwide to students of diverse backgrounds, interests and abilities. The institution offers educational programs that integrate life-long learning with knowledge and skills to help students: pursue their personal interests and objectives, develop intellectual, analytical and critical thinking abilities; and provide service to their communities. The programs employ traditional, applied and adult-learning pedagogies and are delivered through traditional, accelerated and distance methodologies in a learnercentered environment of mutual respect.” (Mission Statement, 2013) ITT Technical Institute North Charleston Area Campus opened for the first time in April 2010. 1 Business Case Charleston/North Charleston County "is expected to grow by 69,000 people during 2010 to 2020 at a growth rate of 1.8%.” (North Charleston Annual Population Growth Rate, 2007, p. 3) Furthermore, “Charleston, SC Ranks #1 in the US for Growth in Manufacturing Jobs.” (BLOOMBERG, 2012) These “Manufacturing companies rely on Charleston's skilled engineers and technicians, which is why the region is also home to more than 100 manufacturers.” (BLOOMBERG, 2012) SMC Consulting and ITT Technical Institute North Charleston Area Campus anticipate “the growth trend to continue throughout the next decade.” Due to the rapid growth of students interested in attending the North Charleston Area Campus, it has required ITT Technical Institute to increase the number of classes available at a variety of time, establishing more labs that are open for tutoring assistant to these estimated new students. As a result, to accommodate students’ needs ITT Technical Institute will be hiring more productive staff members and instructors. North Charleston Area Campus wants to redesign their employee lunch room to be able to withstand growing occupancy and to accommodation the needs of the Administrative staff members and Instructors. “A well-designed lunch room can improve employee morale and performance and help reduce wasted time. The right lunch room can also encourage responsible living, cut down on cleanup efforts and maintain a sanitary environment.” (J.E.
