SPEECH: Write a speech advocating the Due Process or Crime Control Model and then deliver it to
the class. 2 minutes
ESSAY: Write an essay advocating the Due Process or Crime Control Model. 1 page typed
CHIEF: You have just been appointed police chief of a major city in the United States. Create
campaign to address the six groups of crimes in your city and a plan for how you will work to lower
the rate of each crime.
Campaign: slogan, poster, podcast, commercial (pick two)
Plan: 1 page for each group. Likely causes of each type of crime, how you will combat those
causes, and identify your priorities (list all six in order as most critical to least).
CAMPAIGN:Create campaign material designed to influence voters and politicians to favor either
the Due Process or Crime Control Model of the criminal justice system. You need a minimum of
three artifacts. Artifact – pamphlet, poster, podcast/commercial, website, banner, script for a
commercial.
LAYERS OF LE:Create a poster that illustrates the three levels of law enforcement (include a
**special layer) and how their jurisdictions overlap. Your poster should name specific agencies,
show their jurisdictions and explain how they may collaborate. Include one specific example
(research on the internet) of when they collaborated in the past.
AGENCY RESEARCH: Work with a partner to research a law enforcement agencies currently
operating in Kansas. Create a handout describing the agency, the number of officers or agents
currently employed, and the agency’s jurisdiction. Distribute the handout to the class and provide a
brief oral report on what you learned.

LESSON 1 EXTRA CREDIT (10%) - JUSTICE: One of the three primary goals of the criminal justice system is to
provide and maintain justice. Justice is an abstract term that is difficult to define. In fact, many times we do not
agree upon a common definition for this term Consider your personal concept of justice. If time allows, you can
share examples of students’ responses in class. Type a 1 page paper in which you discuss your own personal view
of what justice is. Then interview a classmate to learn about their view and write a second page in which you
compare and contrast your views. 12 font, Times New Roman, single space.
