Basic Course Information
In this class you will be learning about the particles that make up our world, the forces that control how our
world works, and how to solve real-world problems. Think of it as an introduction to the chemistry and physics
classes you will take in high school. During the year, we will investigate many topics including scientific inquiry,
matter, physical and chemical changes, force and motion, electricity and magnetism, waves, the periodic table,
chemical formulas, chemical reactions, and acids and bases.
Expectations At all times, students must be:

 Prepared
 Polite
 Prompt
 Proud
Consequences

** At East Ridge Middle School, students will be graded on all homework, classwork, online assignments,
projects, tests, quizzes, notebooks, and labs.
** Once family access is available in Skyward (mid-September), it is the parent’s responsibility to monitor their
student’s progress.
** Grading is not a reflection of who you are or how much I like you. Grading is an evaluation of your work
toward achieving the objectives of this class.
Homework Policy: Homework will be assigned on a regular basis and must be completed by the due date.
Students will receive 3 passes per nine weeks in each of their core classes for late assignments (classwork
and homework). Late written assignments must be turned in with a pass stapled to the work. For late
electronic submissions, submit the assignment as directed. Then write the name of the assignment on the
late work pass and turn it in as well. Late work will not be accepted once progress reports or 9-weeks
grades have been submitted, whichever is applicable.
Disclaimer: Course policies, procedures, and syllabus may be changed at the instructor’s discretion. You will
be notified in advance in class of any changes.
