Read articles I, II and III of the Constitution and read what others wrote about these articles. Take
notes on the following:
Articles I, II, and III of the Constitution list the powers of the Congress, president, and the legislative,
executive, and judicial branches of the national government.

Define the concept of limited government and describe the idea of separation of powers
Limited government: when the government has some power but not like a dictatorship.
Separation of powers: The 3 branches are separated but have equal power.





Explain the powers given to Congress by the Constitution.
The constitution lets congress make laws for the nation.
Explain or list the ways in which the congressional powers are limited by the Constitution.
Congressional powers are limited by congress has to agree to make a law and they have to
have a mini vote.
Explain the powers given to the president.
Makes sure the laws of congress are enforced. Also the president can veto laws.
Explain how the president’s powers are limited by the Constitution.
The Constitution limits the president’s powers by he can only have 2 terms in office and he
cannot make laws only veto them.
Explain the powers of the judiciary.
This branch is the court system. Its main responsibility is to interpret or explain laws of
congress.

Explain how the powers of the judicial branch are limited by the Constitution.
The judicial branch can only interpret the law it cannot make laws or veto it just makes sure its
constitutional.

Summarize the concept of checks and balances and how it relates to the concept of limited
government.
Checks and balances control the power of government they created 3 branches of government
this relates to limited government because it doesn’t want government to be to powerful.
