ABOUT BTEC

• Level 3

• Award is equivalent to 120 – 40 UCAS points

(one A level at A – E)

• Principle aim gain understanding of the sport sector by applying theory to practical situations

• No exam, completely course work based.

• Delivered over four and a half lessons a week.

Units at a Glance

Four core units:

Unit 1- Principles of Anatomy and Physiology

Unit 2- The Physiology of Fitness

Unit 3- Assessing Risk in Sport

Unit 7 – Fitness testing for Sport and Exercise

Plus three units to be chosen from topics such as sports coaching, fitness testing, sport psychology, sports nutrition and practical sport.

Assessment

• Each unit assessed on evidence produced by candidate 100% coursework.

• Variety of ways evidence developed into a portfolio: presentations, role play, diary/log or projects.

• Units – assignment brief- scenario – task

• Task deadlines – teacher feedback

• Teacher marking – IV - EV

What makes a good BTEC Sport

Student?

• Enthusiasm for all aspects of sport.

• GCSE PE or BTEC Sport Level 2 experience is an advantage but not necessarily essential.

• Well organised and able to meet deadlines.

• Enjoys coursework approach.

• An appreciation that BTEC Sport is not all about practical lessons. It is an academic subject and students will be expected to work as hard as in it as any other subject.

Coursework and Homework

Coursework:

• Each section of your work will be given a deadline.

• Before the deadline, you will want to check your work and revise it according to the guidance given.

• Check the assessment sheet for guidance. If unsure what to do next, make sure that you ask. You need to be sure you understand what you are needing to show as evidence.

Aim for the Highest

Students will be expected to:

• Read newspaper/listen to news

• Bring in any relevant items

• Read textbook

• Complete homework on time

• Use class time wisely

• Ask questions

Activity

Write about your best sporting moment and be prepared to talk about it the rest of the group
