Technical Definition: the rule of GIS
Audience/Purpose:
The economic system becomes to be globalized. Global information system as a main tool plays
a big rule in this world, especially in the economic world. The term “the rule of GIS” is being
defined for the economic system that any information system crosses national borders. GIS
stands for global information system.
Introduction:
Today, the economic system becomes to be globalized. No matter in the transportation system,
real estate system, no matter in America, Europe or Asia, global information system as a main
tool playing a big role between countries is affecting every corner in this world, especially in the
economic world. The rule of global information system in the economic world reflected in three
main aspects: technological background, economic market’s situation, and social culture.

When we talk about the rule of global information system, we have to understand what
globalization is. At this point, the World Wild Web and Internet always comes to people’s
minds. Internet makes everyone in this world as a neighborhood. “In 2007, more than 888

million people regularly logged on to Internet across the globe……The spread of Internet use
opens enormous opportunities for businesses the world over. Some of countries with current low
participation rates have the greatest potential for expending accessibility to the Internet, such as
China. About 137 million citizens of People’s Republic of China logged on in 2007, but more
than a billion of them might do so in the future, and the Chinese market is expected one day to be
the world’s largest in terms of consumer spending.”(EFFY OZ P315) Because information is the
most important business resource, that makes Management Information System to be the most
important part in a company. As we all know that “management information system is used for
organizing and transmitting data into information that can be used for decision making.” (EFFY
OZ P108) As the management want the business goes to the right way with the right decision, it
needs to collect information as much as it can. Beyond all doubt, Internet, the global information
system that links many computer networks in this world together, will be the best tool for the
company which wants to deal international business.

Having businesses in a different country, market often needs companies that operate
internationally to “think globally, act locally”. Thinking globally means strategic

planning should be global but can be followed with a local flavor. Acting locally means
being sensitive to regional customs and language nuances.
2. Social culture
Culture differences are not only in languages and also gestures. Therefore, international
corporations could have many mistakes between the local people because of the lack of
understanding of the social cultures. Using research to minimize troubles could be a very
important step for international corporations.
3. Technological background
With more advantage in the information technology and more efficient database collection
system, the company could gain great opportunities in the market. Because information is
a major business resource, technology as a tool can be used to develop information
system, which helps management to make the best decision for the company.

From the graph which shows above, it is very clear to see that Asia has the most population in
this world, and also Asia has the most Internet users in this world. It is important that Asia is
organized by the third world which means that they are all developing countries. They have huge
nature resources, labor force and technological potential, but they need technological support and
better management technique. A health market needs a strong technological support. The

technology also needs a health market to popularize. They are interdependent and influence each
