Aim: If any, how might the current issues in the
Middle East impact America and its citizens? (Think
in terms of the volatile cultural, political, social,
and economical “climate”).
Do Now:
1. Please take out HW# 6—the current events article and
the analysis for 14.2. Ellie is coming around to check it.
2. Amongst your neighbors, discuss
your article
• Did anyone have a similar story surrounding the Middle
East?
In your notebooks, take note of any common
themes/patterns noticed while discussing the different
articles.
– What were some of the issues discussed (ONE
MIC – please).
In conducting this assignment over the weekend,
you were probably saying to yourselves:
• (%#*#@!!! - Jason! It’s the weekend, man!
Grrr!!!)
• Why should I care about these people and
their issues?
• What does any of this have to do with me
anyway?
– Does everyone feel the same way, or did
someone have a different take?
Think in terms of:
–Humanitarian – caring about your
fellow man.
–College/University in a few years
& the Select Service Act.
–Soon to be taxpayers – whether
you care or not, your tax $$ will be
used for aid, defense,
transportation, etc., all towards
“peacekeeping.”
Show the 60 minutes video –
current events.
Connecting questions to the video
1) Who were the two opposing
groups?
»Why were they opposing
one another?
2) What was going through
your minds as you watch the
video?
Free Write: (10
minutes)
Based on your understanding of the
volatile (heated) history of the two opposing
groups:
• Do you think that peace lies just beyond
the horizon?
• Will that peace be achieved in our lifetime?
Give specific responses/examples as you write.
Aim: What were causes and effects
of the revival of trade in Europe?
Do Now: Hand in 14.2 HW.
• Vocabulary: Analyzing two words:
Revival & Renaissance
–Define each term: What does
it mean?
–Explain its significance:
When/where might this be an
important word?
• Please copy-Re (prefix): Anew, once again, do over,
go back to what was once there, get back
to the way things once was, etc.
• Don’t copy—

translated into French Vernacular → renaissance – re –
‘back, again’ + naissance ‘birth.’
