Cutler Middle School
Grade 6
Summer 2015 Reading Project
Be a Movie Producer;
Create a Movie poster and trailer to be used in Cinemas
Many of the great movies made are based upon interesting books.
This summer you get to create an eye catching movie poster like the one on the walls of
cinemas. Included should be pictures of characters and an important scene from the movie
that captures the audience’s attention. The poster should also provide a clear
advertisement of the movie’s purpose and mood
Assignment: You have been chosen to create a movie poster based on a book you’ve read
over the summer months that attracts others to want to see your movie and read your
book!
For this assignment you need to:
 Choose and read a book that can then be turned into a movie, (See list of
suggested books for summer reading)
 Write a trailer for the movie that summarizes the plot without giving away the
ending that makes others to want to see your movie and read your book.
 Hire movie stars to play different roles throughout the movie and include them on
the poster.
 Identify where the movie will be shot – the setting(s)
 Include the theme or central idea, (What does the author want me to know about
people or life in general?).
 Make your poster colorful and attractive. It should be around the size of large
oak-tag /poster board, 12” by 18”.
These posters should be brought in with you on the first day of school and will be
used to create the first bulletin board for all to view and enjoy!
Happy Reading and promoting your “movie”!
