The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to the
goddess Athena built on the Acropolis hill.

Their lives were difficult because the land was
poor and stony. They received very little rain,
and their farms were small.

despite the fact that they were outnumbered
two to one.
The general “packed the wings” (added extra
hoplites on the ends) so that when the
Persians attacked the middle of the line, the
ends closed in on them and attacked.

democracy.

Athens had a direct democracy because they
were small enough to allow all free male citizens
to attend the assembly and vote on the laws.
