Job Title: Graphic Services Director
Occupational Summary: Directs and coordinates all operations of NCSU Design Company through
leadership in planning, directing, and coordinating activities and staff who design and create graphics
to meet specific commercial, promotional, and/or other design service needs of internal and external
customers. The Graphics Services Director holds responsibility for oversight of outsourced functions
and job related projects, and leads all efforts of administrative and business functions, such as
budget, finance, facilities, procurement, information technology, office services/systems, and human
resources. As well, ensures that all actions and products produced support the company’s overall
mission, vision, and goals.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities: The position of Graphics Services Director requires a highly
motivated and skilled management professional to lead, guide, and direct staff to perform a wide
array of tasks and manage organization administrative responsibilities. The following are examples
of typical duties performed as the Graphics Services Director. Other duties may be required to be
executed due to the dynamic nature of the design and management discipline.














Manages overall day to day activity of company office, projects, and staff under the direction
of company owners, and assists in the facilitation of company business necessities including:
payroll and benefits, budgeting, strategic development, human resources, and other assigned
business provisions.
Assign and supervise the activities of graphic design staff.
Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources.
Develop and implement program policies and quality standards.
Review and approve the creation of designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on
knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts.
Consult with clients to discuss projects and design.
Manage the development of graphics and layouts for product illustrations, company logos,
and Internet web sites.
Research, design, write and edit complex projects to ensure quality work for clients.
Manage, plan, analyze, and create visual solutions to problems.
Develops expectations for content and quality of design at various stages of project.
Interface with marketing staff to develop visual media concepts; work in conjunction with
clients, writers, photographers, and vendors to resolve issues and complete projects.
Select and hire employees.
Train and evaluate employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product.
Address performance issues and make recommendations for personnel actions.

Supervision Given/Received: Interacting with both the staff of the organization and its customers on
a routine basis, the Graphics Services Director provides direct supervision of all employees, their
work, and customer communications, ensuring subordinates produce products and services on
schedule, at acceptable levels of quality and cost with safety adhering. Receives supervision from
company owners and delegated stake holders.
Minimum Qualifications: The perfect candidate will be flexible, energetic, self-motivated, quickthinking, and able to juggle multiple and diverse responsibilities with a strong emphasis on
organization. In addition, this position must understand the overall plan for the company and set
specific goals for the organization that are aligned and communicate those goals to staff clearly.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in fine arts, graphic design or related discipline. An equivalent combination
of education and extensive work experience will be considered on a pro-rated basis as a
substitute for degree requirement.
Five years of supervisory experience in graphic design or related field of work.
Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience working with graphic design and multi-media tools, equipment and techniques.
Superb understanding of general graphic arts business practices, communications, and
policies, with the ability to update and revise vital company dependent documents and media.
Knowledge of application packages to create visual communication vehicles.
The ability to successful complete evaluations bias free and ability to exercise best business
practices.
Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and ability to work with individuals or
groups with diverse backgrounds.
