● Be prepared, don’t wing it

on anything on your resume
● Have questions planned to ask at end
● Get enough sleep!
Over-preparation for interviews is a bigger mistake than under-preparation.
Types of Interviews
Tonight, we will cover:
● Traditional Interviews
● Phone Interviews
● Recorded Interviews
● Skype Interviews
● Case Study Interviews
Traditional Interviews
Traditional Interviews
● Can be 2-3 interviewers at once
○
You most likely won’t know ahead of time
● Can have multiple interview in a row
○
Super Day: 3-4 30 minute interviews in a row
● Dress appropriately and have good hygiene
● Have a padfolio, pen and multiple copies of your resume
● Bring additional materials to show your accomplishments
Phone Interviews
Have your materials ready!
● You will be able to utilize more sources than during a traditional interview:
● Resume
● Cover Letter
● Brag Sheet/ Master List
● Talking points to cover for anticipated questions
Be prepared to talk about anything on your resume!
● Often, you will be asked to “take them through your resume”
*Phone interviews still require preparation and practice!*

❏ Dress up even though you are not being seen! NO PJ’s!
❏ Talk with a smile! You will have a more appealing and friendly tone.
❏ Use the Bathroom. (Sounds Silly but it’s very important)
❏ Utilize resources to your ability. (Company website at hand)
❏ Take advantage of the lack of visibility *but to a certain point.*
❏ Lack of visual cues from interviewer, so stress verbal communication and ask questions.

Skype Interviews Are:
Increasingly common
More reliable than phone interviews- allows the
interviewer to have a conversation face-to-face
Just as with any type of interview, make sure you have
your resume and other materials on hand

Make sure username is appropriate
Look into the camera and maintain eye contact with
the interviewer
Dress like you would to a regular interview
Make sure the surrounding areas are quiet
dont have anything in the background that will distract

Run a practice round with friends to make sure the

Case Studies:
Consulting firms, government agency, consumer packaged goods industry

Phone Interviews:
Many Companies! This is a cheap alternative for them.

The Entertainment industry is big on this, like Time Warner

This method is fairly new, but is being used by companies like NBC and Hershey’s

Many Sales positions will be intervewed traditionally
Current Events
Gay discrimination bill in Arizona
-Apple, American Airlines and Marriott advise Arizona Governor, Jan Brewer,
that a state legislation allowing companies to discriminate gays on
religious grounds would be bad for the economy
-Many firms issued letters and phone calls to Jan Brewer expressing concern
-American Airlines noted how deeply Arizona suffered during the recession
Current Events
Pot stocks light up the stock market
-Publicly traded marijuana stocks are surging this year.
-Medbox is the latest example, they provide products and
services for businesses that dispense medication. It
announced plans to tailor its products for use in rec. and
medical marijuana facilities and shares soared 65%.
