We at Upper Deck are looking to start a new series of trading cards, “Renaissance
Man” Trading Card. Interested graphic trading card designers are invited to share
their ideas by submitting a proposal with 4 cards; 1 card from each of the categories
listed:

Scholars and Philosophers – pg. 57-59

Artists – pg. 62-68

Scientists and Mathematicians – pg. 69-71

Writers – pg. 72-73
Interested Card designs and proposals to start off our “Renaissance Man” trading
card series can be submitted to our Vice President of Card Designs Chris Carlin.
Your pitch must explain:
Social Studies Learner Outcome:
Communication 8.S.8 demonstrate skills of oral, written and visual literacy
Knowledge and Understanding 8.2.4 examine, critically, the factors that shaped the worldview
evolving in western Europe during the Renaissance

The reasons for your choices of Renaissance Men – what made them so great?

What impact did they have on the Renaissance Worldview?

Communicates key information and creates an interest for the new trading
card series
Ideas for format of your Pitch could include:
- PowerPoint
- Video
- Letter to Vice President Chris Carlin
Remember to communicate your reasons for your choices of renaissance people in a clear, persuasive
and engaging manner, through written and or oral means

There are some elements that ALL trading cards must contain:
Social Studies Learner Outcome: Research for Deliberative Inquiry 8.S.7 apply the research process

A front and a back
FRONT
• simple
• large, colour hand-drawn/traced picture and name of the explorer
• you could also include the occupation of the Renaissance Man as the
“team”!
ie. Philospher
BACK
• organize into sections
• include the following info
o Renaissance person
o Occupation
o Born: location and date (if possible)
o Died: location and date (if possible)
o Accomplishments: list all the accomplishments… discoveries… greatest
pieces of work… etc… (may include pictures)
o What impact did they have on the Renaissance Worldview?

ALL WRITING MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS. You may NOT copy text word
for word from any source.

All titles and headings must be in stylized print and easy to read.

All pictures on the front must be hand-drawn or traced. All informational text
must be printed or typed (no handwriting for informational text)

The entire project must be well-organized and not cluttered
