IT governance an important aspect of a company good governance also
an enabler for information technology to support objectives of the
organisation.
Cyber attacks are now a reality which all the companies must be prepared to face.
In this light that the ISACA and MIOD, gathered IT professionals in forum with tile
of discussion being “Cybersecurity Nexus IT Governance and COBIT Framework ”
moderated by two experts from the US being, Frank Schettini and Tim Mason.
According to an international study conducted earlier this year by ISACA, approximately
82% of companies expect to suffer a cyber attack, while 35% as they have difficulty in
finding staff with the skills required in cybersecurity.
Concerns regarding cybersecurity are also present in Mauritius and in this line the forum
entitled “Cybersecurity Nexus IT Governance and COBIT Framework ” which was
moderated by two experts from ISACA in the United States, Frank Schettini, Chief
Information Officer and Tim Mason, Chief Marketing Officer.
The two experts spoke about the challenges of cybersecurity and the importance of IT
governance, which plays a key role in the establishment of security structures. They also
talked about Nexus and COBIT 5, two key elements in protecting companies.
Cybersecurity Nexus is a comprehensive training developed by ISACA, allowing those who
follow it to reach an expert level in this field. As for COBIT 5, this is, the only framework
for companies in terms of IT governance and management technologies.
ISACA Mauritius has also the responsibility to promote the training and the Information
Systems Audit, governance of IT and related occupations cybersecurity.
“ISACA Mauritius has a hundred members with various skills. ISACA offers globally
recognised certifications in many aspects of cybersecurity, including software quality
assurance (Certified Information Systems Auditor), security (Certified Information Security
Manager, the risk (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control) and governance
(Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT), “said Iqbal Sodul, president of ISACA
Mauritius.
IT governance is also an important aspect of company good governance says Jane Valls,
CEO of the Mauritius Institute of Directors.
“The IT governance is the responsibility of the Board of Directors and Executive direction.
It is an integral part of enterprise governance and consists of structures and processes
which enable information technology to support objectives of the organization. Businesses
compile and manage large amounts of confidential data, which is stored and transferred
via digital networks. With the growing volume of cyber attacks increasingly sophisticated
moreover, companies must be even more vigilant, “says Jane Valls.
