BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Enactus, previously known as Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), is an
international non-profit organization dedicated to enabling progress through
entrepreneurial action. Enactus provides a platform for university students to
collaborate with business and academic leaders in the development of
entrepreneurial-based projects that empower people to transform opportunities
into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities. Enactus UTP
continue to grow with time and within one year of its formation. Currently there are
four active projects; which are Green to Gold (GTG), Children Beyond Boundaries
(CBB), Supporting Opportunities through Socioeconomic (SOS) and Youth in
Community (YiC).
Youth in Community (YIC) empower youth in innovation, creativity, soft skills
and self-confidence instead of an in-class education provided daily. Our vision is to
act as a platform in empowering people from various walks of life through
entrepreneurship. We aim to instill the responsibility of youth towards the
community with entrepreneurs as a medium. We also aim to nurture and develop
youth with the concept of 3C’s; Contribute, Creativity and Communication.
We have discovered a place at the southern border of Perak in Malaysia that
has the potential in developing eco-tourism to sustain the local community by
empowering the youth through tourism entrepreneurship. We are planning to bring
our project further and more beneficial to the community. As our previous project
was more focusing on secondary school students, this time around we have decided
to have a project that is more impactful to us and also the targeted people we have
chosen.
Kampung Ulu Slim is located in Slim River; a border between Kuala Lumpur
and Perak has the potential in eco-tourism field with natural attraction such as
waterfall which beneficial to the villagers. Through this project, we aim to play the
role by being the catalyst for the youth in Kampung Ulu Slim to obtain the necessary
set-skills for the management and planning of the eco-tourism project in their local
community. We aim to improve their economic by helping the youth to build an
5
organization that could independently manage the waterfall so that they can
generate their own money and income for the community in Kampung Ulu Slim.
Enactus is a club whose vision to fulfill our social responsibility towards the
community through entrepreneurship. We aim to enhance the involved youth with
skills that could help them to improve their social lives and at the same time, help to
create job opportunities to themselves as well as to the communities around Slim
River. With the help from bigger organization such as Majlis Daerah Tg Malim ,
Tourism Malaysia and other NGO’s and other well-known foundation, we wish this
project could have the sustainability that could benefits to ENACTUS UTP as well as
the community we targeted.

SUSTAINABILITY PLANS
In order to ensure stability and sustainability of the project, we will
emphasize on three main keywords: human power, knowledge transfer and
promotion. In term of human power, we will hire larger amount of youth in Kg. Ulu
Slim to be part of the community to develop this project. This subsequently will allow
the transfer of knowledge about this project among the youth in the community as
most of them will be participating. On the other hand, promotion and publication
will be done intensively throughout the execution of this project so that in return it
will be more well known and acknowledge by the Perak Tourism.
FUTURE PLANS
In order to improve the varieties and quality of the activities provided, some
part of the revenue obtained from the phase one will channeled to the future plans
that will be including :
1. Rafflesia sightseeing - Abang Naim (PIC) claimed that there are presence of
Rafflesia flower ahead of Lata Berembun, it takes approximately 40 minutes of
jungle trekking from Lata Berembun, we plan to include this in the jungles
trekking course.
2. Plants Signage - We believed that there are some rare plants or herbs along the
jungle trekking track, so we have an intention to put some informative signages
indicating the plants’ names, types etc. for the participants.
3. More extreme sports activities - Once the activities in the phase one have been
stabilized and somehow solid enough, we will add more extreme sports activities
in addition to jungle trekking and water crossing such as abseiling, water rafting
and paintball.
4. Camping site and facilities - Camping site and public facilities such surau, toilets,
mini hall etc. will be installed phase by phase according the plan later.
