Professional Development Center Deliverables
Developed training for creating learning objects, using the NCLOR, best practices, etc. and created

Speaking, LiveScribe Smart Pens, Accessiblity Guidelines Training, Moodle, You Tube, Softchalk,

Faculty and students can search for VLC courses, programs, and resources; shared ownership and
access by all colleges to VLC courses; colleges may post all distance learning courses on site for
marketing purposes (only 33 of 58 colleges participate); links to each college’s distance learning
website for contact and registration; “On the Cutting Edge” newsletters; distance learning enrollment
reports; linked to and from the state’s e-Learning Portal (www.elearningnc.gov.)
 NCLOR (NC Learning Object Repository (www.explorethelor.org)
Repository to manage, collect, and share digital learning resources for use in traditional or distance
learning environments; over 10,000 learning objects and assets including SAS Curriculum inSchool
Pathways and NROC collections; provides quality resources and reduces duplication of effort associated
with course development; integrated and accessible through Blackboard and Moodle.

Online help desk support services for Blackboard and Moodle faculty and students; includes chat, email,
telephone, and personalized support portal available 24/7/365.

Online library resources available 24/7 to NCCCS faculty, staff, and students, as well as all North Carolina
library patrons and educators.

 V-Scope Explorer : Basic Biology and Anatomy & Physiology
(www.explorethelor.org, Basic Biology and Anatomy & Physiology)
System-wide contracts for Basic Biology and Anatomy & Physiology collections; state-of-the-art high
resolution microscopy which mimics physical functionality of a real microscope and requires students to
follow traditional laboratory process and protocol; web-deliverable, accessible from the NCLOR and can
be down-loaded to college computers in classrooms and PC labs from each college course server; free
professional development workshops by vendor.
 Late Nite Labs (www.latenitelabs.com)
Online chemistry (REACTOR Collection) and biology (RADIANCE Collection) lab simulations; free
instructor accounts with the ability to customize labs, store content and reuse resources; available to
students for $15.00 per course; technical and help desk support for faculty and students; pilot project
participation to develop additional science labs for microbiology and anatomy & physiology available to
colleges and no cost to students.

Vendor produced distance learning courses; license fees paid by NCCCS Office and per student fee.


 Anatomy TV (www.statref.com)
Online resource of interactive 3D skeleton animations that include bones, ligaments, muscles and vessels
throughout the human body; body parts may be moved and manipulated by a simple click of a computer
mouse; animations may also be exported from the software as short movie files.
 STAT!Ref® (www.statref.com)
Online database of 35+ electronic medical textbooks which are cross-searchable, full-text, top-tier titles for
healthcare and science disciplines. This database is relevant for students in seated and online courses.
 Dental Database (www.statref.com)
Dental Database includes nine (9) electronic medical titles, and additional resources including Stedman’s
Medical Dictionary; MedCalc 3000, a computerized medical reference and tool set; Pub Med, a service of
the National Library of Medicine which includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles; and the
National Guideline Clearinghouse, a public resource for evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. All
Dental titles and resources are cross-searchable, full-text titles relevant for students in seated and online
courses.
 Virtual Computing Lab (VCL)
A remote access service that allows students and faculty to request or reserve a computer with a desired
set of applications, and to remotely access it over the Internet; provides NCCCS students and faculty with
access to advanced computer applications through a sharing of software resources eliminating multiple
purchases of specialized software; collaboration between NC State and NCCCS.

Moodle hosting, technical support, and training through a UNC-NCCCS partnership for colleges involved
in piloting Moodle LMS.
 NC-NET (www.nc-net.info)
Offers community college faculty in North Carolina a collaborative, statewide professional development
system committed to sharing best practices, leveraging resources, and avoiding duplication.
 NC-ACCESS (www.nc-access.info)
An expansion project of the North Carolina Network for Excellence in Teaching (NC-NET) dedicated to
developing and providing professional development programs for student development personnel at NC
community colleges; website serves as a clearinghouse for all student development services information.
