Description
This is a unique opportunity to help conduct commercial engineering for the scale-up of a new
biofuel and wastewater treatment / water production technology.
The job will entail being the primary project engineer for the development of novel commercial
plants. The position requires thorough knowledge of fluid control systems, various separations
processes, chemical or industrial process design and engineering techniques. The position
reports to the Company’s VP of Engineering.
The tasks will include CAD manufacturing drawing development to match previous pilot
developed specifications, to produce scaled up systems. You will also lead the effort of
integration of several processes and co-lead the basic and detailed engineering efforts for the
project including the possibility of managing internal and external engineers. You will be
responsible for evaluating hydrothermal liquefaction processes for producing bio-oil and
configuring manufacturing process to reduce cost, improve robustness, and develop best
practices within the production process.
The job requires the ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders, develop
relationships, and manage complex problems. The selected candidate will have a unique set of
skills the company feels is appropriate to conduct this effort, is technically minded, and is
competently knowledgeable in the field of our work.
This position requires collaboration with an elite cross-disciplinary team of engineers,
technologists and scientists working together across diverse areas of expertise. You must be
able to understand the end-to-end technology process (including biological processes,
dewatering, chemical processing, and synthesize technical information) to communicate the
goals of the company and requirements of project engineering. Your work will be conducted in
a fast-paced and sometimes high-stress work environment for a small but groundbreaking
company focused on developing technologies at the water-energy nexus.
Primary responsibilities










Liaison between internal R+D engineers and externally contracted engineering firms.
Manage engineering relations, scheduling and reporting between internal and external
engineers.
Evaluate and improve on processes in manufacturing systems.
Maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates,
efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.
Develop innovative solutions.
Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving
quality standards.
Develop and implement systems that optimize all phases of production process.
Provide suggestions during incident investigations.
Advise on corrective actions.
Research and purchase new manufacturing technology.
Job Description: Process Engineer
Experience




B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering or related Engineering Field,
10 years’ experience as process engineer of chemical or petrochemical systems.
5 years’ experience as lead process engineer of chemical or biological systems.
1 years experience as lead commissioning engineer.
Preferenced Knowledge of:


Process simulation software, ASPEN, Superpro, Pro-2 or others
HAZOP ANALYSIS
Skills:







Strong analytical, mathematical, computer and organizational skills.
Ability to manage a schedule and meet the deadlines set for you
Ability to effectively and positively collaborate with various stakeholders both internally
and externally;
Understand and put to use immediately technical processes and technology;
Experience or knowledge with sustainable engineering and design a plus – including
environmental compliance and lifecycle analysis.
Must be fluent in English (preferably as a first language)
A second or third language may be a definite plus (Japanese, Spanish, etc.)
