Engineer with Facilities Design, Operation and Management Expertise Sought to

client is dedicated to improving energy efficiency in commercial and industrial businesses and reducing the
impact of energy use on the environment through engineering, analysis, education, and advocacy.
They are seeking a Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical engineer with design, consulting, facilities
operations or energy engineering experience to support their growing client base. Please note:
Candidates do NOT have to have prior experience with energy efficiency projects, but must have a
strong understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. A comprehensive
understanding of buildings as systems is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
The work may include energy auditing, energy systems commissioning, HVAC system
retrocommissioning, controls programming, system performance measurement and verification, LEED
certification and construction management for efficiency projects. The individual in this role will work
on multiple projects, interact with clients, ensure quality of deliverables and completion of projects on
time and within budget. They will work in a team environment, share technical expertise, and work
independently as needed.
Other responsibilities include:








Lead or assist with planning, development, coordination and direction of one or more
large/important project or a number of small projects with many complex features
Conduct energy audits, collect field data, perform system monitoring, technical/functional
analyses, commissioning and verification for energy efficiency projects in commercial/industrial
facilities
Inspect buildings and equipment; troubleshoot equipment using various data collection
techniques and diagnostic tools
Gather/analyze data from drawings, equipment schedules, utility bills, data loggers and building
and process control systems
Develop and implement measurement plans, measure system energy and operational baselines,
perform energy calculations to predict, measure, and verify energy savings
Prepare written analyses and present recommendations for improvement in energy efficiency
Lead and direct team-based efforts
Teach and mentor junior engineering and technical staff
Requirements:


BS in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with HVAC system design and operations; commercial
building operations; plant management; industrial plant facilities management, design or
support or energy efficiency engineering










Strong understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
Ability to work effectively with clients, owners, operators, and utility program administrators in
a professional, consultative manner
Strong technical, analytical and troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with data collection equipment and ability to conduct field work in sometimes harsh
conditions, usually on roof environments out in the elements
Integrity and passion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient time management, organizational, and presentation skills
Must be highly self-motivated and flexible to changes in deadlines and work focus
Proficiency with MS Office; natural comfort with diverse computer hardware and software
Must be willing and able to travel nationally and internationally 10-30% of the time (current
passport required)
Desirable Skills and Attributes (preferred, not required):






P.E. license and/or LEED accreditation
Experience with conducting on site field inspections
Ability to identify energy efficiency opportunities, quantify savings, and communicate results
and recommendations
Experience with installing/operating field monitoring equipment
Knowledge of ASHRAE-90.1 energy codes
Building control system expertise
