 Authors use many methods to learn about
characters: direct and indirect
 One of the best ways to make inferences
about a character is to see how they
respond to challenges they face.
 Read Aloud: Turn to page 3

Use context clues to help define the word “irritable.” In your


Another way: find the root word and the suffix

