at the end of the grading period, as stated in the US Handbook.
2. Athletes and pre-planned absences (blue slips) must get assignments prior to leaving.
3. For all other absences - check my web page http://www.maclay.org/moody for missed
assignments. Please note the web page is updated daily and subject to change.
C. GRADING
1. Each term the following rubric will be used to determine grades:
15% class work/ oral participation (Grades will be posted periodically)
15% homework
(Grades posted daily or ASAP )
30% quizzes
(Announced in advance)
30% tests
(Scheduled in accordance with the test calendar)
10% vocabulary
(quests after mastery of assigned words)
2. Exam exemptions
a. Mid-year exam covers the material from the first semester and counts 1/4 of your
semester average.
b. The final exam covers material completed during the entire year, but will
concentrate on second semester material. You may exempt the exam with an Aaverage as stated in the handbook. Seniors will follow the guidelines stated in the
handbook.
D. HOMEWORK:
1. Homework will be assigned to re-enforce material covered in class or as a review. All work is
posted daily on my webpage and subject to change. Often work will be assigned to study
something or to learn a conjugation and the following day a homework grade will be given to see if
you did your assignment. Do not do the work before it is presented in class. No homework will be
accepted late unless you have an excused absence for the previous day or extenuating
circumstances.
2. Written homework will be graded as follows: (No credit will be given for doing the wrong
assignments, or work that is obviously incorrect or not the work assigned.) Copied homework
constitutes cheating and will be referred to Honor council.
A+
all completed.
B
¾ completed
C
½ completed
F
less than ½ completed
Z
no attempt made
3. Supersites will be due by class on the day due and will usually be graded for accuracy. Please
see the information about purchasing the supersite code.
.
4. Makeup work includes all work missed. Do not return to class and tell me you did not know we
did anything. You are required to check the website and do as much work as possible. If you do
not have your books, you should have someone pick them up for you. Much of the work is available
on the VHL site. We always work in this class and frequently work completed in class is more
important than the homework. Don’t even consider asking “Did I miss anything yesterday?”
5. All work must be pledged. No help from another person should be asked for or sought in
anyway. The use of software programs with translation capabilities is not allowed and will
be considered cheating and you will receive a Z. The use of electronic dictionaries is allowed,
but you must be careful in selecting the correct translation. If you work with a tutor, make sure you
do the work yourself.
6. Format for papers: In the right hand upper corner you should write:
Name
Date
Assignment
E. QUIZZES AND TESTS
1. Bring a pencil and pen to class on test days. Part of the test may be Scantron.
2. Quizzes and tests will be announced in advance. Tests will be scheduled in accordance with the
test calendar. Extra credit translations are included at the end of each test. Each grading period
will have several quizzes, 2 or 3 unit tests, and one vocabulary test (vocabulary quests, usually 10
words, given throughout the grading period and add up to equal one test grade).
3. Long-range assignments are due on the day assigned even if you are absent.
4. Assigned tests that are missed due to excused absence must be made up on the day on which you
return to school. If you have been absent for an extended number of days, you must work outa
make-up schedule with me.
5. Absence for a portion of the school day: If you miss an announced test or quiz because of
absence for a portion of the school day, but are well enough to be in school for the remainder of that
day or to attend co-curricular activities, you must make up the missed test or quiz on that same day.
If no study hall time is available for make-up, you must take the missed test or quiz after school.
This supersedes practices or club meetings. Failure to make up the missed test or quiz on the
assigned day will result in a late grade penalty (lowered one letter grade), or a Z if the absence is
unexcused
6. All quizzes will be announced. Once they are graded you should keep them in your binder and
use them to study for tests and the exams.
7. Graded tests will be returned and corrected in class. You will then give them back to me and I
will file them for you. Tests never leave my room. They will be returned to you prior to exams
and class time will be provided for you to study them. If you or your parents wish to see them at
any other time please feel free to contact me.
II. CLASS CONDUCT:
Please be aware of the following expectations in Spanish class. Students must be in compliance with these
rules on a daily basis. A Z in classwork/oral participation will be recorded for each day you do not follow
the rules listed below.
A. No food/drink, (except water), gum or other foreign objects in your mouth are permitted.
B. Bring all of your materials, be in your seat and on task and no sleeping
C. Dress Code Violation will be enforced including hats
