Important Information Regarding Marine Corps Swimming Qualification:
Both the Sea Cadets and Navy Leaguers will be receiving the full
Marine Corps Swim training that Marine recruits receive during boot
camp. They will be taught by fully trained USMC Drill and Water
Survival instructors. These instructors teach hundreds of recruits
each week and their priority is safety. The swim qualification is
done in the Marine Corps Utility Uniform which will be provided to
each cadet at the swim tank. Each cadets does need to bring at least
one towel and an extra set of PT gear (this is not optional.) In the
event that a cadet does not know how to swim, they will be taken to
the shallow end of the pool and given individual instruction by a
Marine. There will also be a Navy Corpsman present at all times.
For Gate Access:
PMO on base will be given a gate access list so that the cadets
can be dropped off and picked up by parents at the Depot Theater. The
procedure will be exactly the same as coming onto 32nd street. Be sure
that you have your up to date insurance and vehicle registration.
Gate 5 is the visitor’s gate and there is the chance that your vehicle
may be searched. Please remember that if you attempt to bring any
kind of illegal substance onto a federal installation, you will be
arrested. A medical marijuana card means nothing to military police.
If you attempt to bring a weapon on base you will either be told to
leave or they will secure the weapon until you leave base.
Cadets:
This is a base with high visibility. There will be recruits,
Drill Instructors, Sailors and other Marines who will see you. This
is the time to act like young, responsible adults. Remember that you
are representing the Naval Sea Cadet Corps. Having all your uniforms
squared away, a fresh haircut and shaved face are paramount. A medium
or high skin fade haircut is recommended for males. Just as with a
normal drill weekend, phones will be collected and cameras are not
allowed. Be sure to drink plenty of water the day prior and eat
breakfast the morning of. Remember that we are guest aboard MCRD.
This is going to be a very busy and tiring day, but it will also be
one of the most memorable and fun drill weekends you will have with
the Sea Cadets.
