LAUREATE ZETA PSI
2 013
July by Mary Mobley, a transferee who was
originally from Georgia. She was most
recently in the Clearwater, Florida area. We
are hoping to see more of her soon.
By BECKY MUSSEY
Laureate Zeta Psi has had a busy summer.
Elva has been gone most of the summer
visiting her daughter in Connecticut and
visiting with her grandchildren. Elva opted
out of jet skis to take the grandchildren to
the movies when she was at the beach. She
did get the kids lined up with some surfing
classes at the beach at Port Aransas.
Beth has spent some time in Houston with
her son and grandchildren. She remains
active as the spiritual leader in her church.
Beth has also traveled to south Texas with
her sister and her dogs for family business.
Our newest member, Karyn Williams, is a
cake decorator and works in the bakery at a
Super Target. She is a welcome addition to
our chapter. Karyn spent time in upstate
New York camping and celebrating her
parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. On her
way back to Texas, she made a slight detour
to Florida where she and her family had
some beach activities including jet skis.

“Happy Day! It’s great to be back in the
swing of a new year!” says Diann Hogan.
Mary Fross is looking forward to a happy
and successful chapter year.
Ginny and Bob have traveled to Ireland for a
tour of the countryside with a group from
their church. They are also active with the
Guide Dogs of Texas and have started doing
puppy sitting on weekends for some of the
dogs in training. Ginny is glad to be back
home. Her favorite destinations in Ireland
included Kilkenny and Kilkarney. Her
vacation included getting up at 6 am daily
and hitting the road on a tour bus.
“I’m happy to be starting fresh and being a
part of this chapter! And what I will learn,
I’ve missed you ladies, now my
sisters. Thank you,” Nicole
Jan and Rod Enlow and Jo and John Herbold
had a terrific time on their Mediterranean
Cruise visiting Italy, Greece, Turkey and
Croatia this past spring. The only thing
wrong with the cruise was that we actually
had to get off the ship when the cruise was
over. It was awesome.
Becky went to Disneyworld in June with her
son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. It
was a wild week of rides, deep sea fishing,
and fun.
The first weekend in August, we enjoyed a
fun filled weekend hosted by the Hogan’s at
Lake LBJ. Laughter, games and food were
in abundance.
In July, Becky traveled to Arizona to visit
with her sister. From there they went to
Rocky Point, Mexico, for a beach resort
vacation with lots of activities.
Guests Mary Mobley and Cynthia Burgess
attended our Beginning Day meeting held in
the home of Jan Enlow.
We have had summer meetings and had
some planning take place. We were joined in

From the Blarney Castle to Giant's
Causeway to Loch Ness to the Normandy
Beaches, they saw many beautiful sights.
They even managed to have the correct
currency with them most of the time (Euros
for France and Ireland; Pounds for Scotland
and Northern Ireland). Even the weather was
beautiful, unusually warm and sunny
everywhere. It was a terrific vacation. They
came home to celebrate their 60th and 70th
birthdays with family and friends at a huge
party in their honor.
Bruce and Linda are taking Bruce's
mother to Port Aransas for a couple of days.
She has not seen the beach since she moved
here from Florida, several years ago.
Julie is in India on a training trip for
USAA. She is finally at work, after a stop
and go trip, with some missed and delayed
flights. She plans to visit an orphanage
there, to volunteer her time to visit with the
kids. She carried several suitcases full of
goods to India for the orphanage. She was
in a mall there recently, and heard that Matt
Damon was there to eat, he is also doing
some volunteer work. She went looking for
him, ran into him, introduced herself, and
even though very star-struck visited with
him. She says he is soooooo nice.
Kathy and Les celebrated their 40th
anniversary by going with 75 of her singing
group to Jackson Hole and the Tetons,
Yellowstone Park and Old Faithful, the
Gallatin Valley, (where "A River Runs
Through It" was filmed), Glacier National
Park for a tour on the Red Buses. These are
old, restored, open topped, Ford buses. The
weather happened to be beautiful, so we did
not need the lap robes. The trip went on into
Idaho, then finally ended with the flight
home from Spokane. The group sang three
times at senior centers in various places, saw

Doug and Mary went to Las Vegas in June
with another couple and had a great
time. We went to Pawn Stars shop, which is
much, much smaller than it is on TV. And
no, it wasn’t because we needed to pawn
stuff to get home! Just went out of curiosity.
Mary also went to teach Vacation
Bible School at the Navajo Reservation in
AZ. It was a wonderful experience and she
hopes to go again next summer. Other than
that, we spent as much time at the lake as
possible. We took our 7 year old
granddaughter up there for a week twice
during the summer, plus we had her for a
week of local Vacation Bible School. Little
girls are so much fun!
Diana and Joe attended their niece's
destination wedding in Clearwater, FL. A
beautiful bride and beautiful beaches. They
have invested in a new business "Garrafas
Nieves y Mas", located on Mission Road. It
serves snow cones, nieves (fruit cups), icecream, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc.

Linda and Paul with their Irish
ensemble played this last weekend at the St.
Louis Day festivities in Castorville. Paul
played German music there as well. The
Kisslings as well as Maureen and Gus left
on a trip to Ireland this last Sunday. It will
be the second trip for the Kisslings. Their
Irish ensemble will play in Irish pubs, go to
a Ceili (an Irish dance) as well as tour
through Dingle, Kinsale, Cork and the Ring
of Kerry. Maureen is learning Irish dancing,
and will dance during the trip.
This has been a sad summer for our
chapter. Lori Knapp lost her brother, Jim,
Linda and Paul Kissling lost his brother,
Maureen and Gus Schneiderheinz lost his

that Jo and Wanda called it quits! They also

EPSILON PI MASTER
By WANDA SEALES
Just in case you missed reading last May,
Laureate Theta Theta progressed to Master
level and we are now Epsilon Pi
Master. We continue to be a career chapter
with meetings at 11AM on the second
Monday of the month. If you or anyone you
know would desire such a chapter's
schedule, please notify our vice-president
Sherry Larkam at 437-0664 (cell 2157862). Her email is sherrygal@satx.com.
Epsilon Pi Master and its members
have had a busy summer.
Jo and Wanda attended two (Born on the

Afterward we (except for Phyllis who
had to return home to attend husband
Dennis) enjoyed 2-for-1 at Spaghetti
Warehouse. The sharing of Tiramisu topped
off a wonderful evening of friendship.
Sherry's busy summer is almost a blur for
her now. She had the good, the bad, and the
ugly. The good included several weeks (like
two months) of enjoying her grandson
Brighton from Florida. They managed to do
many activities while his dad was
working. Included was his coming along
with us (Sherry, Beverly, Jo) to Aldo's for
Italian food as we enjoyed former member

shingles! Heaven help Hank and the rest of
us as we age!
When Beverly is not taking Hank, Jean,
or herself to various medical appointments,
she is kept busy attending other family
matters - such as taking her grandson Deven
to register for his sophomore classes! She
also took Deven for his ten hours of night
time driving; he trusted his grandmother
over his mother! Maybe we should keep
Beverly in our prayers! LOL!
At our last meeting last year, our new
member Patrice (we call her Pat) Clayton
volunteered (and it was HER first meeting!)
to be our service chairman. Our primary
service is Hope Comforts, Inc. We provide
them with supplies for the mental health
clients that they service. During her
delivery to them, she accepted their request
to deliver supplies to some of the
clients. Pat said it was a true eye-opener of
their clients and needs. Our other service
project is paper products for the Lackland
Fisher House.
Susan continues to enjoy Wednesday's at
the senior center near O'Conner HS in
Helotes. She welcomes all requests for
information as to the various programs (she
participates in board games and lunch).
Phyllis had been scheduled for a
procedure to change the battery for her pace
maker - but it was delayed due to her taking
antibiotics (for another medical issue) at the
time. Both she and husband Dennis have
kept their medical providers busy!
Rene continues to spend time in Florida
with a friend. We never know when she will
be here to honor us with her royal
presence! LOL!
As usual, Wanda continued her
"wanderings" this summer - with TWO
major road trips of about two weeks
each. The first was to Chattanooga for her
family reunion. On the way she visited with
L-R Beverly, Maria, Maria's daughter-in-law
Gwen, Brighton, Sherry, Jo, and Wanda
Sherry and Brighton - along with other
family members from San Antonio attended a family reunion in Missouri.
Sherry's good also included a refreshing
trip with her Sunday School class to visit
Salt Lake City, Lake City (Utah), Jackson
Hole (Wyoming), Yellowstone National
Park,
and Park
City
(Utah)
in
August. Fortunately the fires in the area at
the time of her visit did not affect their
travel agenda..
Unfortunately, Sherry's bad and ugly was
being there for her son Ken's kidney
removal (cancerous) surgery and all the
horrors of such a malady. Please keep Ken
and Sherry in your prayers.
Our honorary member (Beverly's mother)
Jean Coffman's health problems which come
and go have precluded her from being able
to attend our functions for the past six or so
months. Please keep her in your prayers.
Beverly's husband Hank continues to
have various health problems also; your
prayers would be appreciated. His latest is

Her second major trip was in

way, she visited a bucket list item - Carlsbad

she also participated in the trips to Ole Town

her way (via the Painted Desert and Petrified
Forest south of Holbrook, AZ) to Phoenix to
visit former military friends she had known
in Germany. It was while in Phoenix that
she learned "she had been kidnapped in the
Philippines". NOT! As her sister Cindi said
"I knew it wasn't true - you are NOT a
BEST REGARDS type person". That was
how the scam email had been so signed!
After Phoenix, Wanda continued to
Flagstaff, Four Corners, Mesa Verde, Royal
Gorge - mostly via roads in Indian

that she is in NEVADA, ARIZONA, COLORADO,

In Colorado she enjoyed her first
(another bucket list) trip (via the cog train)
to Pikes Peak. Afterward she had lunch
with Paula, a BSP friend from her Germany
days. Then it was on to Aurora for a 36hour visit with her sister Marj and family
before heading home!
On the way home, Wanda had a nice 2hour luncheon visit with Maria Jones at her
lovely home in Rising Star. Yes, Wanda can
keep you busy for hours with her stories and
photos.
And finally, Wanda recently had a most
delightful visit with her friend Nigar Nizar
from Pakistan, who was
visiting family in
Houston. Nigar holds
the distinctive honor of
being the first female
Muslim cartoonist. Her
character is GOGI.
Wanda met Nigar when
they both lived in the

Liz Ellis has a special surprise in July to
help her celebrate her birthday. Her only
sibling, a sister from Georgia, arrived, they
hit all the tourist spots and enjoyed their
time together despite the heat.
The chapter attended a summer social at The
Silo in San Antonio and hosted Beatrice
“Bea” Martinez as a potential new member.
We also had an evening social at The
Cypress Grill in Boerne, and had several
guests.
Barb and Chris Turk had a visit in June and
July from her daughter, Laura, and 3 grands,
Hannah, James and Aaron, who now live in
Virginia. They all had a great time! They
are planning a trip later this year to Santa Fe.
We are all delighted that Barb Thompson
has recovered from an extended illness and
is ready to join us again.

Amy Madison made two trips to Baltimore
with her son, Braun, for foot surgery and
follow-up. He is doing great. Her daughter,

Our Preceptor Kappa Nu sisters have had a
very busy summer!
Sandra Whittaker and her friend, Cindy
Moseley, went to Ruidoso, New Mexico in
August to visit. They enjoyed the cool
weather, sight seeing, and shopping. They
stopped at Carlsbad Caverns, Cloudcroft,
White Sands, Alamogordo, Ft. Stanton, and
Capitan, and of course, more shopping and
sight seeing in Ruidoso.
The Chapter is busy planning Fall Tea with
Preceptor Alpha Kappa, slated for October
19 at the Woodland Baptist Church on
Huebner. PAK is promising a fun
entertainment skit for everyone.
Dorothy Akers, and her daughter, Kelly
went on a Baltic cruise in July touring
Russia, Netherlands, Lusitania, Germany,
Poland, Finland, Denmark and Norway.
Some of their favorite spots were
Amsterdam, Berlin, and St. Petersburg. The
weather was super!
We are looking forward to our chapter

MESSAGE FROM ACC VICE-PRESIDENT
amount of work for you if you just want to attend
a brainstorming meeting and have input. The
input would be greatly appreciated!
As we get ready to officially start our 2013-14
ACC sorority year, we are also getting ready to
start the membership drive mentioned at our
May Installation meeting. We hope that by
'getting the word out" about sorority through
various methods, we will increase our
membership in chapters and/or perhaps open up
new chapters over the coming year.
If you live in a neighborhood which has a
neighborhood association and you receive a
newsletter from that association, you can help
by letting me know who puts out the
newsletter. We can contact them and arrange to
place our informational ad with them.
Your assistance is needed! This is a great
organization that has brought many good friends
and benefits of friendship into all of our lives, as
well as benefits of belonging to an organization
that does so much for so many worthy causes in
various ways. I am immensely thankful that my
neighbor at the time invited me to visit a
chapter meeting way back in 1977 and opened
the door of this organization to me. We can
share all the good things we have received by
opening the doors to others. The first step in
that is to make them aware of Beta Sigma Phi.
If you live in an apartment complex, or if there
are large apartment complexes around you, you
can help by letting me know the name of the
complex and the street it is located on. We can
then approach the apartment managers to ask
about posting a flyer on their bulletin board.
If there are any other places you think would be
a good place to post a flyer or an informational
ad, let me know the details. I'll follow up and
make the contacts.
We will be doing some 'informational advertising'
in homeowner associations'
newsletters, ensuring we are a part of the
newcomer information put out by the San
Antonio Chamber of Commerce, possibly
creating a Facebook page, possibly posting
flyers on apartment complexes' bulletin boards,
and other avenues that have not been thought of
yet. This is where we need your assistance.
Hopefully, this membership drive idea will bear
fruit and see us with at least a small number of
new members by next May. One thing is for
sure - we won't know until we try.
Please join me and the ACC Executive Board in
this effort!
Contact me by email at jtfaust4@aol.com, or by
phone: 830-899-7730 (home) or 512-426-6792

Anyone who would like to volunteer to work on
this Membership Drive 'team' would be very
welcome. Primarily, it's your ideas that are
needed. Many heads are much better than

As we all know it has been increasingly
difficult during the past 10+ years to get a
picture of a Beta Sigma Phi function in the
newspaper. Perhaps we can change that. In
August the following article appeared in the

I would like to start a new section called
