NORTH MECKLENBURG HIGH SCHOOL IB EXAM INSTRUCTIONS 2013

IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES: Mrs. Regen’s cell phone number is 704-661-4012 or call North’s front office at 980-343-3840 and the office will relay a message.

ARRIVE: 7:30 for morning exams and 12:30 for afternoon exams. We will have a check-in meeting before we enter the exam room. Check in with a friend at 7AM to help one another avoid being late. Lunch is on your own. You MUST be on time for afternoon exams.

HOW TO GET THERE: See reverse side. If you need transportation, find a ride with another student. In the case of extenuating circumstances, see Mrs. Regen 2-3 days prior to the exam.

HOW TO BEHAVE: School rules are still in force. There should be no shouting, horseplay, or loitering around the building. Remember, you will be in public buildings as a guest. Dress modestly. DRIVE SLOWLY IN PARKING LOTS AND NEAR OUR EXAMS; TWO HAVE

DAY CARE CENTERS—and the other, A POLICE DEPARTMENT!

WHAT TO BRING: Black pens are mandatory, as are pencils and graphing calculators

for math, science exams (your calculator memory WILL be cleared). You may also bring highlighters, pencils, and colored pencils, but their use is restricted to certain exams. (Pencils

AND pens are required for science exams.) There are no pencil sharpeners at the testing site, so be sure to bring either a mechanical pencil or pre-sharpened pencils. You must know your IB Candidate Number.

WHAT NOT TO BRING INTO THE EXAM ROOM:

 Cell phones, MP3 players, or any other type of electronic device (other than calculators for math & science)

 Food or beverages (except water in a clear bottle).

 Book bags, purses, pencil cases, notes, notebooks, textbooks

WHAT TO WEAR: You must follow CMS dress code, but dress comfortably. Bring a light jacket or sweater in case you sit near an air vent.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU GET TO THE EXAM ROOM:

 Exam rooms are silent except for discussion that must take place between proctors and students.

 You will be seated according to a seating chart. This seating chart will vary for each exam.

Your seat will be indicated by a preprinted blue cover sheet for the examination.

 You must use IB writing and graph paper (unless the exam requires you to write in the test book). This will all be provided.

 You will also be provided with “rough” (scratch) paper for each exam; this paper will be turned in.

 When the examination begins, you will be given a test booklet. You will then be given 5 minutes to read through the exam without writing, highlighting or using a calculator.

 Once the reading time is over, you will begin the exam. Start and end times will be posted.

 You must stay for the first hour for the exam, and you may not leave in the last 15 minutes of the exam. (The “leaving time” will be posted on the board.) DO NOT LEAVE THE

EXAM EARLY UNLESS YOU HAVE FINISHED—YOU MAY NOT RETURN TO

THE EXAM! If you rode with someone else, you will need to wait outside the examination room to meet that person.

 You may use the restroom during the exam, but you will be escorted by a proctor, and you will not receive additional time on the examination.

 When you have finished the examination, you will fasten your cover sheet to your test paper using a string tag provided. There is a space on the cover sheet where you will write which sections or questions you answered (if you had to answer all of them, write “All”). You will also write the total number of pages attached near the bottom of the cover sheet. It is important to proofread each Exam Cover Sheet and Multiple Choice Answer sheet to be sure that name and IB numbers are correct.

SOME ADVICE FROM PREVIOUS YEARS:

 Outline all English, History and Psychology questions before writing any.

 Look over the Chemistry, Biology and Physics syllabi well before exams. Be familiar with science data and math information booklets.

 Attend all review sessions you are able to.

 Create study groups!

 Eat well and get enough sleep during the month of May.

 Handwriting must be legible. If an examiner cannot read your exam, it will not be graded.

 Remember that you are still a North Meck student, which means that you are held to the expectations of CMS and the school.
