Hitler Violates treaty of Versailles by building up
the German Military (1936)
• ARTICLE 160.
• (1) By a date which must not be later than March 31, 1920,
the German Army must not comprise more than seven
divisions of infantry and three divisions of cavalry.
• After that date the total number of effectives in the Army
of the States constituting Germany must not exceed one
hundred thousand men, including officers and
establishments of depots. The Army shall be devoted
exclusively to the maintenance of order within the
territory and to the control of the frontiers.

• Giving into the demands of the aggressor in
order to keep peace
 This
policy would also apply to the
Japanese invasion of Manchuria.
• The Japanese invasion of eastern China would
be the reason Hitler took the risk of violating the
terms of Versailles since the League of Nations
only protested the action
• Appeasement is born out of the Kellogg Briand
act of forbidding war as a national policy

opposed war.
