Community Events Update a.

Saturday the 4 th of April is the kickoff of The Wharf’s special event calendar for 2015.

The Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival is a 7-hour celebration culminating with the National Cherry Blossom’s Fireworks Spectacular at the Washington Channel.

3.

New Business a.

Maritime Schedule January/ February i.

Piles & Framing of Piers

1.

The pile driving at District pier will finish this month and then the work will continue on to Transit pier.

2.

The timber bulkhead is currently being installed and will run the entire length of the boardwalk.

3.

Bellingham has been awarded the contract to build the Market Pier and will begin their portion of the work in July of 2015. ii.

Landside Construction

1.

Demolition of the former Capital Yacht Club docks is underway. b.

Clark Construction January/ February i.

Building Demolition & Foundation to Grade Construction

1.

The last of the piles at the bulkhead will be installed this week and the concrete top will follow.

2.

Currently the foundations team has excavated 20’ down in most parts of the site and will begin going deeper as the dewatering plant comes on line. Dewatering is going well and we are able to keep the portions of the site where construction has gone under the water table dry.

3.

The first test pile was driven last week. Once the approvals come back on that, production piles will be fabricated and start being driven.

Currently we are on track to have production begin in late January and proceed for 8-9 months. ii.

Utility Work & Road Closures

1.

The new intersection from Maine Avenue into the Fish Market is nearly complete. The controllers, signals and paving will be completed with street lights flashing by the end of the month.

2.

Washington Gas and DC Water are the two utilities still working through their installation in Maine Ave.

3.

Contractors are currently laying down the permanent concrete and will begin milling over it with asphalt from the Fish Market to the 7 th St. intersection. iii.

Pedestrian/ Bicycle Access

1.

The new intersection at the Fish Market will greatly help pedestrian traffic along Maine Ave. and provide a safe crossing for all patrons to use. iv.

Parking lots

1.

The Spirit lot will remain open for both long monthly, long term and short term parking.

2.

About 17 spaces at the Fish Market will be opening up with the start of the new traffic signal. c.

525 Water St. January/February i.

Building Demolition & Support of Excavation

1.

The tower crane will be installed within the next week.

2.

The concrete top out is scheduled to be complete by mid-May and the final completion of the building is slated for June of 2016. ii.

Utility work

1.

The deep sanitary line work is scheduled to wrap up in the next 3-4 weeks which will open M Place back up to through traffic. Overall traffic patterns are still being worked out with DDOT during the construction of this building.

Community Issues a.

Open Topics for discussion. i.

Q: Will Jenny’s be opening soon? A: Yes, we are targeting having them open for late February to celebrate Chinese New Year, dependent on permitting at DCRA. ii.

Q: What wood is the timber fendering? A: Yellow Pine

iii.

Q: What is the purpose of Clarks Opportunities trailer? A: This will be the space where from 8am-10pm every Wednesday anyone looking for a job in a construction trade or applying to be a subcontractor on this project can stop in and gain more information and apply. iv.

Q: When will roads be operable? A: It is increasingly hard to lay asphalt during the winter time as most plants close but, weather dependent, we will be finished by mid spring. v.

Q: Are deliveries of construction material still coming by water? A: Yes, we have a few more shipments due by barge and will be cognizant of any ice or debris that could impact boaters as a result of their movement. vi.

Q: When will the parking at the Spirit Cruise line go away and what considerations are being made for the loss of those spots? A: The lot will go away by mid to late summer of 2015 and we are currently working with DDOT on parking scenarios. However, until that point, the lot will be open from 6am –

8pm with additional parking to remain at Arena Stage, L’Enfant Plaza, and the

4 th street garage under DCRA. vii.

How is the city going to monitor the buses in the community? A: We have no control over District of Columbia bus monitoring policies. We can only monitor buses in the areas of Wharf streets that are under our management and control. viii.

Q: Is DDOT up to date on the new bus and pedestrian management plan? A: Yes, the plan is there and we are aiming to have it up and running in front of Arena

Stage in May. ix.

Q: Who maintains the sidewalk in front of 525 Water St. (Former St. Augustine’s church site) A: HMW has a snow removal company on retainer to monitor snow accumulation and remove snow from public sidewalks.
