1. Attendance & Participation
Students are required to attend class, read assigned material, and participate in discussions, and
individual and group work activities. If for some reason you are not able to attend a class due to an
emergency, please contact the instructor via email or a message through another student as soon as
possible. Evidence of attendance is done by taking and wearing your name tag. Return the tag to the
box at the door at the end of each period. If your time of tardiness or early departure for one or more
meetings totals more than 90 minutes, the course grade will be lowered by one level, e.g., from A to A-.
If the time of tardiness or early departure totals more than 180 minutes, the course grade will be lowered
by two levels, e.g., from A to B+.
2. Individual and Group Activities/Assignments (70%):
Students in this course will work both individually and in groups to develop expertise in their own
practice for working with diverse groups of people. Particular emphasis will be placed on the unique
situational experiences of teachers and students in the urban context. Students will be expected to
complete the “Before Class” requirements prior to each class session. All assignments must be brought
to class or submitted via Blackboard on or before the date they are due (or on specific digital tool site
specified for the assignment). NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. There are 5 points
possible for each class meeting. In order to receive all 5 points for a class meeting, students must arrive
on time, be prepared for class discussions/activities, cooperatively work within a group, and actively
participate in class discussions. Make sure you have completed the “Before Class” requirements prior to
the class meeting so you are prepared to participate. An absence will result in a loss of 5 points. One
absence may be made up for full credit by completing an alternate written assignment.
4. Lesson Plan (30%)
This is a culminating activity which students will work on throughout the course. Students will prepare
a lesson (using the approved lesson plan template for the program), with all the routines, procedures,
rules and activities necessary to engage students with a particular content standard(s) at either their
appropriate level (elementary, middle or high school level). This will include your Embedded Signature
Assignment which is centered around reflection, next steps and monitoring student progress on the
approved lesson plan template (H9 & H10 on the PACT Rubric). Combined 30 points total with a score
of 2 or higher when writing the reflection piece in response to the lesson plan on the rubric to pass the
course.
Logistical Note: All classes will begin on time; please be prompt. You are welcome to bring snacks and/or
