I am a good cook and every time the guests who
visit our house and dine – they have appreciated
whatever I have cooked and served. But one
particular item that has always attracted
attention of every one is the Papadum (Papad)
that is being served as an accompaniment. The
last three occasions – guest even suggested that
they are willing to buy if I am willing to make for
them. This was lingering in my mind and after
attending I Create Safar workshop – my vision is
crystal clear on how to shape this business and
earn.
Name : Karam Kuram Papad, Logo is just a Papad
only, and the tag line that I have thought is …”You
Will Go On On Eating…
Lots of branded papads are there in the market
and they command good price. My assessment of
pricing was that there was a cost attached to the
brand name as well. During the market survey
/visit I realized that in village people prefer – non
branded papads vis a vis branded.( may be
because of the cost factor). The villagers also
know that these papads are being made by some
of the self help groups therefore they support the
cause by buying these papads. Urbanites when
ever they visit any food stall in any exhibitions
they always look for papads made by “ So Called
Self Help Groups” . They are sort of a repeat
customers as well. So even though competition is
there – we feel we can earn. The Local spices and
other ingredients are our USP. They all taste
differently.
As mentioned above in Competition – the
research indicated that people love to taste
different different varieties as far as Papad is
concerned. They have a special liking for these
home made papad as well and have been buying
repeatedly. Currently no one in our village is
doing this kind of business thus shops around only
carry branded papads. As mentioned from pricing
point of view also ours is at 75% cost compared to
the branded category. Thus going to be cost
effective. Small time vendors, hotels around have
expressed their willing ness to support by placing
orders for initial buy.

Friends, relatives, neighborhood, people at the
bank with which I have a account with and any
other place where people assemble and chat.
While I will be strictly maintaining the way I used
to prepare papad – but will also be talking to
various consumers ( those who consume my
papad) and seek their advise from time to time.
My customers will decide the quality – my job will
be to measure up to their taste and expectation.
A packet containing 25 or 50 papads. Approx 250
gms per packet.
Rs. 60/- per pack of 25 papad each.
Thus the Gross Profit Per Packet is Rs. 30/-.
This is compared to Rs. 80/- per packed being sold
by branded papads.

 Cost of Hing( afsote)

 Cost of Papad NH4CL

 Packing
Rs. 80
Total Cost of Sale for 5kg is about Rs. 1,830/which produces about 1,700 papads. We assume
200 are wasted thus only 1,500. Thus a pack of 25
papad is costing Rs. 30/- each.
Very Small – Just Rs. 2,200/- being plastic sheets
for drying papad and Papad making plates ( it’s a
sun dry process).
Self Funding – since its very small amount of Rs.
2,200/- towards one time and about Rs. 2,000/for first round of production.
Competition from my friends and the same
thought crossing other women, existing brands,
our packing methodology we need to be
improved so that moisture does not get in. If
demand exceed supply – then my capacity to
increase and maintain the same standards, over
confidence and complacency.
