Abstract
∗
I present the major characteristics of philanthropy in China through data and facts. It would be followed by a comprehensive
introduction of China’s nonprofit sector, including the administrative system, legal frame, tax incentives and other barriers. Lastly,
conclusions will be highlighted from the perspective of a practitioner and researcher. Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A
session for further discussion and better understanding.
About The Speaker

Mr. Lu Bo is the Managing Director of World Future Foundation Ltd. (WFF), a charitable foundation incorporated in Singapore. He is
devoted to resolve social and environmental problems by integrating the ideals of philanthropy, power of wealth, and technological
innovations. He was fully involved in the establishment of WFF, and since September 1st, 2008, has been in charge of the Foundation's
daily operations.
He also serves as the Deputy Executive Director of Beijing Vantone Foundation, Board Director of the Research Center for International
Dispute Resolution at Beijing Foreign Studies University, Advisory Board Member of the Asia Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and
Philanthropy at the National University of Singapore (appointed Visiting Senior Fellow in August), and Expert to the Philanthropy Bridge
Foundation, UK.
Born in Beijing in 1970, Lu Bo obtained both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Economics in China. As a Ford Foundation Scholar, he
is currently pursuing his doctoral degree at Beijing Normal University. He is among China's first PhD candidates in non-profit
management. In October 2011, Lu Bo was a visiting scholar to the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, US.
Lu Bo is active in the international non-profit community as a board member, consultant, speaker and author on topics related to
philanthropic development
