Maria Tsimpiskaki

I was born in Rethimno, Crete in Greece. I graduated the Athens University of Economics and Business and I am a jewelry designer since 1990 after attending painting, sculpting, jewelry making and designing classes. I am living and working in Athens.

I think of jewelry design as a combination of line and color and material that is each time the result of a given frame of mind, of different mental and emotional states.

It is the lines and forms and shapes that we encounter all around us in the natural world, in the street, or in everyday life, or even in the images these trigger in the mind…

The colors that are inherent to the materials, almost invariably requiring special processing before they are revealed…

And finally the materials themselves, whether luxurious, or humble, complementary, or disparate, or ephemeral, worked by hand using traditional and modern techniques to produce a range of unique pieces.

My aim is to create jewelry that is flawless in terms of construction and finish, perfectly fitting the human anatomy so that it becomes an essential and cherished accessory, setting off the personality of the wearer.

Member of the international art jewelry comuity klimt02 and the Italian associations of contemporary jewelry AGC και Gioiellodentro .

Jeremy May ‘Little Fly’

‘Literary Jewels’ each JEWEL is individually hand-crafted from vintage books

–second hand books

Little Fly – Literary Jewels are created from recycling paper. Each jewel is carefully crafted out of vintage books and sculpturally formed through a process of layered compression and lacquering. Each book chosen has a history, people have bought them, read them, made notes on them, sold them on or gave them as a gift and have been passed on to the vendor on the quais of la Seine in Paris, a second hand book shop in the university district in

Tokyo, in Vathis Square in Plaka, a local charity shop, or donated.

For each piece made, May selects from the book a distinct quote that directly inspires him to create and envisage the form and appearance. The first ring ever made was a gift for his wife on their paper wedding anniversary, Jeremy recycled her favourite greek newspaper. For the second ring the accompanying quote was: ‘NOT a day passes over the earth but men and women of no note do great deeds....’_Charles Reade, 1929 Cloister and the

Hearth – though one would hardly describe May as man of no note!

Every jewel is impossible to replicate and is unique to the wearer, carrying a serial number. Their beauty extends within the piece: text and images pass all the way through, only exposed at the surfaces, revealing a tantalizing glimpse of the writer’s story and the artist’s vision.

The result is an exquisite range of collector’s jewelry pieces that combine modern simplicity with traditional craft and sensitivity. May’s creativity and innovation transforms each piece into a true coalescence of thought, word, and d eed! As such May’s work is not just recycling resources, it is offering the art form a new level of emotional sophistication.

Jeremy May is a Landscape Architect born in Suffolk, England. Little-Fly was

‘born’ in January 2009 to transform the paper that aspires to last beautifully and bring joy, colour, and love to all those sustainably minded individuals. The jewels have been presented in London, Paris, Osaka and now in Athens.

Christina Niarchou

Christina Niarchou was born in Athens in 1979. She was originally trained as an Interior Designer in London and has been working freelance for many years.

She discovered jewellery through evening courses in metalsmithing.

In 2006, she decided to devote herself to this new activity, since then she has set up her own workshop in Athens.

London is a point of reference to her, as she had her most important contact with art and art is about upgrading your senses.

Through her art classes, she learned to give a personal interpretation of the world, both sensual and conceptual.

She believes if she hasn't been given this passage through her life, she would never discover her creative self.

Most of her works deal with a passage, which is about time. She doesn't see anything that she does static, it has to exist as a journey in time.

She perceives her work, as small expressions of her inner search.

She considers jewellery, as a medium of communication in between her and the observer/wearer.

She believes that jewellery are transformed on the wearer's body, while they can also be individual entities working as microsculptures.

She aims to create works that their forms and their materials, challenge the traditional perception of what is jewellery and what is wearable.

She gets inspiration of contradictions, but always keeping in mind how to achieve a certain balance.

She uses mixed techniques, and she tries to discover new potentials for each material she uses,

through a continuous experimentation.
