MILESTONE
FOR THE NATION’S HALAL INDUSTRY
Kuala Lumpur, 6 February 2013 The Malaysia Halal Week, the biggest international halal event, returns
from 3-6 April 2013 at the Kuala Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. This

shakers once again gather in the International Halal Showcase (MIHAS)
and the World Halal Week Conference (WHWC).
Making its 4th appearance, the Malaysia Halal Week will now be named
“World Halal Week, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia 2013”.
Regarded as a progressive and modern Islamic nation, Malaysia has been
spearheading the halal industry for the benefit of Muslims and nonMuslim around the globe. Being the pioneer in halal certification,
Malaysia ensures the integrity of halal products and services through
strict compliance with syariah requirements whilst still being business
focused.

Through years of creating awareness and promoting the development of
halal industry in Malaysia as well as internationally, halal has now
emerged as one of the fastest growing business sectors in the world. The
global halal market is estimated to be worth more than USD2.3 trillion
and the value of halal food sector is reaching USD700 billion annually. The
non-food sector is much bigger, and includes chemicals, healthcare,
cosmetics, personal care and pharmaceuticals. Another promising and
fast gaining acceptance in the halal industry is the Shariah compliant
services, which include banking and finance, logistics, warehousing and
distribution.
This April, World Halal Week, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia 2013 welcomes
business leaders, government agencies, scholars, entrepreneurs and
industry players to congregate and collectively discuss, deliberate and
plot the direction of the Global Halal Market whilst also creating new and
innovative technologies for the industry. This government and private
sector collaboration aims to strengthen international trade links and
create innovations within the industry to further expand the halal industry
and reach the 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide.
The World Halal Week, Kuala Lumpur 2013 is a collaborative effort under
the patronage of Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) with
coordination from three different organisations; MIHAS is organised by
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), World
Halal Week Conference (WHW Conference) is organised by Halal Industry
Development Corporation (HDC) in collaboration with IHI Alliance. This is
an excellent example of public-private sector initiatives that provide
supportive platforms to showcase Malaysia’s halal industry.
The World Halal Week, Kuala Lumpur 2013 starts with the WHW
Conference that is organised by the Halal Industry Development
Corporation (HDC), in collaboration with IHI Alliance. The two-day
2
conference will be held 3-4 April 2013 and focus on deliberating issues
and sharing new advancements in halal research, innovation and its
applications in business. “Halal Economy” as the theme, the conference
will also feature forum, exhibition and research commercialisation.
Participants can look forward to interact and discuss with scientists,
researchers, academicians, business leaders as well as exchange ideas on
new research findings, emerging technologies, trends, issues and
challenges in the global Halal industry.
This year marks a significant milestone in the Malaysian halal industry as
MIHAS, the world’s largest halal expo celebrates its 10th anniversary with
the theme, “A Decade of Excellence”. MIHAS reaffirms itself as the
world’s sourcing platform for premium halal products and services.
Indeed, MIHAS is the focal point for global traders, entrepreneurs,
manufacturers to meet and associate with industry experts, representation
from the regulating bodies and trade development agencies that will be
there to provide support and advice pertaining to halal related issues.
As part of MIHAS’s attraction, the Incoming Buying Mission (IBM)
organised by MATRADE, brings more than 500 pre-selected foreign
buyers every year to partake in personalised and pre-arranged one-toone business meetings with local manufacturers of halal products and
services. Last year, MIHAS 2012 recorded total sales of over RM340
million and it will make a return this year on 2 April 2013 at MATRADE
Exhibition & Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
Targeted to bring in thousands of delegates and exhibitors from over 50
countries worldwide, The World Halal Week, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia 2013
is definitely an event not to be missed.
