These are some of the following dates that you could add to your Dipity timeline. It will be a
working document as we go along the movie. Please make sure that you add enough
information to description and upload an image for each event.
December 30, 1965 - Marcos was elected as 10th president of the Philippines.
1969 - Became the first Philippine President to win a second term
January 26, 1970 - wave of protests known as the "First-Quarter Storm."
January 30, 1970 - Battle of Mendiola Students marched down to Malacañang Palace to rally.
Riot police tried to disperse the demonstrators using a fire truck, later on there were gunshots,
which killed a handful of protesters.
June 1971 - Constitutional Convention organizes to replace the 1935 Constitution
Marcos wanted a shift to Parliament system – unlimited times to run for presidency
August 21, 1971 - Two hand grenades are thrown at the stage of Liberal Party rally at Plaza
Miranda.
September 21, 1972 - President Marcos declares martial law
September 22, 1972 -Opposition leaders and media personalities are detained, among them
Senators Benigno Aquino and Jose Diokno
July 27, 1973 - Marcos holds a poll President Marcos holds a poll to find out if the people want
him to continue serving
beyond his term so he can finish the reforms he began under martial law. According to official
figures,
96.7 percent of the 18 million voters vote "Yes."
April 4 - May 13, 1975 - Ninoy went on a hunger strike as a sign of protest on not participating
in any of the military proceedings
Nov. 25, 1977 - Ninoy was sentenced to death by a firing squad
1978 - founded the political Party LABAN - (Lakas ng Bayan) although not allowed to campaign
Ninoy ran against Marcos for presidency
April 6, 1978 - supporters of the party came out in protest by asking bystanders and cars to
make noise in support the opposition.
April 7, 1978 - the first national election under martial law held. Only 15 opposition candidates
in other parts of the country won. None of the members of LABAN were elected
April 8, 1978 - After the Noise barrage, the Catholic Church became more critical and spoke up
against Marcos headed by Cardinal Sin
May 8, 1980 - Ninoy Aquino was released in Fort Bonifacio to undergo an operation in the
States.
June 16, 1981 - Presidential Election was held again by Marcos although the opposition chose
to boycott the election.
August 21, 1983 - Ninoy Aquino decided to return to the Philippines. He was assassinated at
the airport after arriving from Taipei.
August 31, 1983 - Ninoy Aquino’s Funeral it was the longest funeral march in world history with
about two million people joining the march
1983 - 1986 - Confetti Revolution there are protests and rallies done in Ayala joined by
businessmen, protesters, students etc. It lasted for three years and is longer than the First
Quarter Storm.
November 3, 1985 - Marcos calls for snap elections due to the pressure by the United States
and withdrawal of their support to their administration
December 3, 1985 - Corazon Aquino announced her candidacy for President
February 7, 1986 - there was a huge turnout of voters. There are protests from Commision on
Elections and have walked out due to manipulation of the results of election.
February 15, 1986 - The Batasang Pambansa proclaims Marcos the winner as opposition
assemblymen walk out.
February 16, 1986 - Corazon Aquino leads the People's Victory Rally at the Luneta,
launches a nationwide campaign to force Marcos to step down.
February 19, 1986 - The U.S. Senate passes a resolution condemning the Philippine election
as fraud, military aid to the Philippines was cut as long as Marcos is in power.
February 22, 1986 - Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile and General Fidel
Ramos announce their withdrawal of support for President Marcos and call for his resignation.

Cardinal Sin makes an appeal over Radio Veritas for people to bring food and lend
moral support.
February 25, 1986 - Corazon Aquino takes her oath of office as the seventh President of the
Republic. That evening, Marcos flees Malacanang with his family and supporters.
