BACKGROUND to the LESSON:
this lesson could be used in any subject; the teacher
simply needs to set the required criteria for the
presentation in advance, and possibly provide
appropriate websites for research
ICT USED and HOW USED
(pedagogical techniques, logistics, responsibilities, technical preparations
groupings, troubleshooting...)
Students will create a PowerPoint presentation on a famous major
artist.
The teacher will let students draw pre-selected artists in order to
ensure that each student will have a different interesting artist.
Students will use pre-selected websites to research their artist.
From their research, they must locate the following information
about the artist:
 Name
 Birth information/death information (if appropriate)
 Family history/early life
 Artistic style/movement
 Influences
 Picture
 Famous works
 Images of at least 3 major works
 Any other interesting information the student feels is
appropriate
Research should be done with notecards, or by typing the
information into a word processing program, not printed from the
lab. I find letting them print out the information uses too much
time and wastes paper.
After they have completed their research:
Each student will create their own PowerPoint slide show that
presents the information they researched.
They should have at least ten slides and no more than twelve.
The slides must have transitions, at least two sound effects and
creative graphics.
ICT ROLE IN
ASSESSMENT
PRIMARY DATA THAT WAS CREATED + LICENSED +
- the PowerPoint will
be assessed based on
the stated criteria
-information on famous major artists (many
artists listed on one site)
http://library.thinkquest.org/J001159/famart.htm
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/
http://www.show-your-own-artgallery.com/famous_artists.html
- the PowerPoint created can be as detailed or as
simple as the student’s ability allows
-Microsoft PowerPoint
- by using the PowerPoint program, students can take
a standard project and make it more interesting; they
get to be creative and show off their skills, getting
them more involved and giving them ownership of
the project
- a rubric may be
easily created –
students can be
involved in the
rubric-creation
process
SHARED
REFLECTIONS ON ICT AS A FUTURE LEARNING
TOOL
- students can add other details to their presentations
using other technologies if they have the knowledge
and skills
