FOOD CHAIN
 Food Chain:
Is a step by step sequence linking organisms that feed on each other, starting
with a food source such as plants (Producers), and continuing with animals
and other living things, that feed on the plants and on each other (Consumers).
FOOD WEB

Food Web:

Is a complex order of smallest to largest organisms, they all
interlock with each other to form a feeding relationship called a
food web. Each ecosystem has different animals and each other
living organisms that all feed on each other differently than other
organisms in other ecosystems. The sun is important because it
gives energy to the plants which gives energy to deer which give
energy to other animals.
ECOSYSTEM

Ecosystem:
 Every
living thing is part of a complex web of
relationships that we call an Ecosystem.
Every species has a role, if even one species
is removed the Ecosystem may change. An
Ecosystem is where Food Webs and Food
Chains occur.
ROLE OF PRODUCER

Role of a Producer:

Organisms that can make their own food from
nutrients and sunlight or some other non living food
source, placed in the first trophic level, also known as
a Producer. An example of a Producer would be a
plant such as a flower.
PRIMARY CONSUMER

Primary Consumer:

The second trophic level contains organisms that feed on the
producers. Primary Consumers rely on Autotrophs directly for
the source of energy.
SECONDARY CONSUMER
 Secondary

Consumer:
Are animals in the third trophic level. They rely on
Primary Consumers for their source of energy. But they
are still dependent on the Autotrophs in the first trophic
level.
AUTOTROPH

Autotroph:

Organisms that can make their own food from basic nutrients and
sunlight or some other non living energy source.
HETEROTROPHS

Heterotrophs:

They cannot make their own foods, and so must obtain their food
and energy from Autotrophs or other Heterotrophs. Human beings
are Heterotrophs.
