Studies for Students Who Are Gifted (#7965040)

Students in this course will have a choice of focusing on one of three possible “projects”
for the duration of the school year/course:
Choice 1 – Independent Project Portfolio (student choice); academic focus but NOT a project
Assigned in another class; project portfolio created that reflects each of the
Seven Student Outcomes in the Florida Framework
Choice 2 – AP Course Focus Portfolio (student choice on which AP class); portfolio reflects
work samples that demonstrate and justify accomplishment of each of the seven
Student Outcomes in the Florida Framework
Choice 3 – Academic Coursework Portfolio; portfolio reflects work samples from ANY combination
of current courses (including extra-curriculars) that demonstrate and justify the
accomplishment of each of the seven Student Outcomes in the Florida Framework

Teachers of the course are facilitators only. Tasks such as determining portfolio content,
organizing portfolio samples, and providing rationale(s) for the inclusion of samples are to
be completed by the student (with guidance from the teacher as needed). Portfolio content may be
electronic as well as hard copy.

Teachers of the course will need to assist students in planning portfolio completion (for the
purpose of determining quarter and semester grades) such that particular goals are to be met
within time frames (to be determined by collaboration between teacher and student). Evaluation of
portfolio contents should be based on provided rubrics for each goal (use “Trait-Know-UnderstandPerform-Accomplish” tables in K-12 Florida Framework document).

Students in this course will use the “Florida’s Frameworks for K-12 Gifted Learners Checklist for
Challenge and Rigor” as a guide to completing their portfolios. The portfolio rubric is based on this
document and the Florida Framework (specifically, the “Know-Understand-Perform-Accomplish” tables
related to the objectives under each goal. Students should also have access to and be familiar with
the full “Frameworks for K-12 Gifted Learners” document (hard copy or electronic). This document can be
found at
http://www.fldoe.org/bii/Gifted_Ed/

Further information on this course can be found in the course description for “Studies for Students Who
are Gifted (#7965040) on the cpalms website (www.cpalms.org)
