The theory of differential-association would apply to El Chapo. As a
young boy he saw his father involved in drugs. His father was into
selling and using drugs. Also, El Chapo was abused physically. He
was hit, punched and kicked as a young child. This made an impact
on him because he was a young kid and influenced easily by
watching how his father behaved. It felt normal to him to be physical
and involved with drugs. This influence came from his dad by just
watching what he did. When he was finally on his own he took those
actions into his own life with him because that was normal to him.
He then expanded from there and grew up to be a huge drug lord.
He started off with selling marijuana to be able to supply for
himself, as his dad did for their family. Without any correction on his
father’s bad behavior, El Chapo followed in to his father’s footsteps
and now is one of the most wanted men in Mexico at this current
time.
