Class: Forging Non-Ferrous Metals
Instructor: Randy McDaniel
A Note from Randy:
We will be working with non-ferrous metals on a number of different projects to get you familiar with the
properties of each material while hot forging. Once my demonstration is done you may proceed to
duplicate the same project or create your own depending on your skill level. Our basic pieces will be from
4” to 6” long bar stock so if you want to create something that takes more material than this you will need
to bring it to class. One of the best suppliers of small quantities of non-ferrous metals is
www.onlinemetals.com .
You do not need to bring any tools, but if you would like to work with your own hammers or tongs feel free
to bring them. All tools, materials and fuel will be provided by the school. Clothing safety: 100% cotton, no
synthetics. You must wear solid top shoes. No flip-flops or athletic shoes. They don't have to be boots,
but boots are okay. You must have safety glasses unless you wear regular glasses. Gloves are not
required, but if you want to use them they should be the 100% cotton jersey gloves. Check to make sure
they are not synthetic. If you wash and dry them before wearing they will provide a better grip. No Kevlar
gloves!
Please feel free to email me with any questions at rams4g@msn.com .
I look forward to seeing you soon and having a good time!
