March 27 – Discussed vertical shift and period change for sinusoids. Homework: Section 4.2 – 1-4, 9, 11, 13, 15, 21, 23,
27, 29 (at least) 41, 43, 51 and Section 4.3 – 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 17, 19.
March 25 – Test Homework for Friday – Exercises page 203 – 9-12, then 13, 17.
March 23- Returned quiz. Answered a few questions. Demonstrated some proofs of identities that used even and odd
functions, then discussed the amplitude of y = sin x and y = cos x. Test on Wednesday .
March 20 – Quiz on graphing. Discussed basic graphs of tangent, cotangent and secant. Homework: Know basic
sketches for all six trig functions for at least one complete period.
March 18 – Two homework problems were worked on the board. Discussion was about basic graphs of the trig
functions: y = sinx; y = cosx; and y = cscx. Homework: KNOW how to sketch a graph of the three trig functions
discussed in class. (You already know their domains and ranges). Complete the points on the yellow handout for
tangent and cotangent functions.
March 16 – Returned homework. Discussed :linear velocity, angular velocity, and conversion of units. Homework:
Section 3.5 -7, 9, 13, 15, 17, 19, 25, 29, 31, 39, 41, 43, 44, and 51. Test on Section 2.4 – 4.1 is March 25.
March 6 – Collected homework. Discussed arc length and area of a sector of a circle. Homework : KNOW the domain
and range for the six circular functions as well as the points on the unit circle. Section 3.4 – 9,12,15, 31, 37, 41, 46, 45,
55, 57.
March 4 – Answered homework questions. Defined circular functions with domain and range emphasis. Homework:
KNOW the domain and range for the six circular functions as defined in class. Read pages 140 – 141. Problem set 3.3 –
1-6 and 10, 15, 20, 25, 30,51, 65, 70, 75, 80, 83, 85, 89, 91, 101, and 102..
March 2 – Returned quiz from Friday. Discussed evaluating expressions given the radian measure of the angle, then
discussed the unit circle with radian measure. Homework: Section 3.2 – 57, 60, 62,63, 66, 72, 75, 78, 81, 89. 92. Section

3.3 - 27, 30, and 49. Memorize the “familiar angle” values within one complete revolution in radian measure. ( ex. 6 =

30° and 6 = 210°, etc.) Next test should be the week of March 25.
February 27 – quiz on reference angles. Discussed finding an angle when the value of its trig ratio is known. Discussed
radian measure. Worked several examples of converting degrees to radians and radians to degrees. Homework:
Section 3.1 – 55 – 80 multiples of 5 (55, 60, 65, etc.) Section 3.2 – 1-4, 5, 7, 9, 13 – 20 all, 31 – 43 odd, 45, 46, 48, 49.
February 25 – no class February23 – Discussed magnitude, horizontal component of a vector, vertical component of a vector, reference angles
and finding the trig value of an angle using the reference angle. Homework: Section 2.5 – 9, 13, 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27.
Section 3.1 – 1,2,4,5, 7, 9, 15, 19, 22, 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 38, 45, 47, 50. Be sure to follow directions.
February 20 – Returned graded tests. Discussed angle of elevation/depression and directions. Homework: Section 2.4
– 19, 21, 23, 29, 31, 35, and 37.
February 18 – Test on Sections 1.1 – 2.3. Homework: Section 2.4 - # 13 - 17
February 16 – Returned the “do over” quiz. Answered questions about the test and worked problems about equilateral
or isosceles triangles.
February 13 – No class – Mississippi Science and mathematics Tournament.
February 11 – Returned quiz. Discussed setting up several triangles from word problems of diagrams. Homework:
Section 2.3 – 34, 45, 47, 51, 55, 56, 59, 60, 61, 65, 67. TEST on February 18 covers all homework through section 2.3.
February 9 – “do over” quiz on familiar angle values. Discussed significant digits and solving right triangles. Homework:

February 6 – Quiz on values familiar angles. Discussed keystroking angle measure in degrees. Answered one homework

February 4 - Returned quiz. Discussed definition of trig ratios in terms of sides of a triangle. Developed trig ratio values
for familiar angles (0, 30, 45, 60 and 90 degrees). Cofunctions of complementary angles are =. Homework Section 2.1 –
MEMORIZE the values in Table 2 page 60. Memorize the definitions of the trig functions in terms of sides of a triangle.

January 30 – Quiz on homework. Discussed Ratio Identities and then worked sample problems using identities and
definitions. Homework: Memorize the ratio identities. Section 1.4 – 13 – 25 odd, 27, 33, 39, 47, 59 and 61.
January 28 – Students worked a few examples on the board. Discussion included reciprocal identities and Pythagorean
Identities. Homework : Memorize the Reciprocal Identities and Pythagorean Identities from section 1.4 . Exercises in
1.3 – 5, 10, 20, 25, 43 – 49 odd, 51 – 54 all, 55, 60, 65, 70 (pick any point that satisfies the condition and sketch the
triangle needed.) I will be out of my office in the morning.
January 26 – Returned homework. Defined the six trig ratios in terms of x, y, and r (or names of adjacent, opposite and
hypotenuse). Emphasis was placed on the fact that several of the ratios are reciprocals of other ratios. Developed
points on the unit circle associated with 30 and 45 degree angles in all four quadrants. Homework: Memorize the six
trig ratios . (Definition 1 on page 27 or the definition on page 56) Memorize the six trig ratios of a 45 and 30 degree
angle. READ Section 1.3. Section 1.3 -17 and 18.
January 23 – class cancelled
January 21 – Collected the homework. Reviewed the distance formula, rectangular coordinate system, and equations of
circles. A unit circle is a circle with center at the origin and radius of one. Homework: Section 1.2 – 1 – 3, 6-8, 17 – 20,
31, 34, 37, 39, 41, 45, 47, 49, 61, 63, 5, 69 – 76, 77 and 91.
January 16 – Answered homework questions. Homework: Section 1.1 – 32, 33, 34, 45, 50, 52, 54, 57, 60, 67, 69.
January 14 – Discussed: kinds of triangles, naming triangles using sides and using angles; Pythagorean Theorem; 30-6090 right triangles; and 45-45-90 right triangles. Homework: Read pages 5-10. KNOW THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN
