Soldering Iron:
There is no need to solder in this course, nor
in the majority of courses you will take.
Only EET 420 may require soldering
Purchase for your own personal interest
Use a soldering Iron with temperature control and
thin tips
Do not waste your money on cheaper models. Not
versatile enough
Accessories needed: Solder rolls and desoldering braids

Resistance values by the use of color codes
•3rd band only used
in low-tolerance
devices
•Normally, 2 bands,
multiplier and
tolerance
•Nominal value
•Real value will be
different (tolerance)
*Resistance interval
EET 109 SESSION #1
LABORATORY WORKBOOK
•Experiment #1: Math and Calculator Fundamentals
•Student review on their own
•Experiment #2: Will not use VOM (analog multimeters  Obsolete)
• Skip parts of lab as directed by instructor
• Skip all of Part 4
Color Codes
Tolerances
Nominal vs. Measured values
