PRINCIPLE STAGES OF MITOSIS IN
REPRESENTATIVE CELLS USING AN ONION
ROOT TIP, COMPOUND LIGHT MICROSCOPE,
AND PRE-PREPARED SLIDES.
 PART
II: ESTIMATING THE DURATION OF THE
RESPECTIVE STAGES OF MITOSIS IN AN ONION
ROOT TIP.
Interphase
Stages of the cycle during which growth and DNA
synthesis occur when the nucleus is not actively dividing.
Plant Cell
Prophase
Chromosomes condense; nuclear membrane prepares for division.

Metaphase
Chromosomes line-up independently in the center.

Anaphase
Chromosomes separate and move towards the poles.

Telophase
Daughter cells have 1 chromosome from each homologous pair.
The animal cell begins to form a cleavage furrow while plant cells construct
a new cell wall to divide the new daughter cells .

only occurs in animal cells.
