some political tension that has been developing. Decide which role
each member of the group will play for today’s simulation:

Read through the World Situation Summary and
National Statistics to get a better understanding of
the six nations and their current situations. Take
notes on the facts that concern your country.
Now that you have a better understanding on the situation between
these countries, answer the questions from the ‘Country Questions’.
Once you have answered the questions from part A, read your
country’s confidential data sheet. This information is confidential so
be sure not to let the information leak to other countries. Answer the
questions to Part B
Use the information in the World Situation Summary sheet and your
country’s confidential file to determine who your county should make
alliances with.
Be careful, making an alliance with one country may prevent
alliances with others!
There is a lot of tension between countries, some countries are stronger than
others, others have a larger military force. It is now time to make alliances,
compromises, and ultimatums with your surrounding countries.
Directions:
As a country, decide on which alliances are the most important.
The Minister of Magic(state) will create a proposal for the ambassadors to deliver
to that country. Proposals can include offering military services, resources,
alliances, etc.
Team A Ambassadors will deliver the proposal to the appropriate country. Only
one proposal can be given at a time, but MOS and DM can prepare the next
proposal while Team A is away. Only Team A ambassadors are allowed in other
countries.(out of their seats) Team A will discuss the proposal with Team B(of the
other country) and if Team B agrees with the proposal, it is then discussed with
the MOS and DM.
If the country agrees on the proposal, the MOS and the DM sign the paper and
Team A delivers it back to the home country. The other country can demand
changes to the proposal which then would require MOS approval.
Minister of State- Writes the Proposals; Makes final say in agreements
Deputy Minister- assists MOS with proposals. Takes notes on what alliances
have been made, should be made, and which to avoid. Complete Final
Agreements sheet.-As each agreement is arranged, fill out the sheet. The
MOS from your country and from the other country are required to make it
official. Send the paper with Team A to be delivered and signed .
Team A Ambassadors- Take alliance proposals to countries. Discuss with
that country’s Team B if the alliance should be made. If Team B agrees, the
proposal is passed on to the MOS to sign. If Team B denies the proposal or
asks for an alternative, bring back to your country for deliberation.
Team B Ambassadors-Discuss alliance proposal with various countries.
Demand better proposals to help benefit your country. Be sure to make
alliances that are good for your country. If you decide to accept the proposal,
pass on to MOS and DM for final say and signature.
How do you think your country did? Did you
accomplish what was in the best interest of your
country?
Were there some countries you could rely on?
Were there some countries you could not trust?
What are some advantages of an alliance system?
What are some disadvantages?
The heir to the Morovian
throne has just been
assassinated by a Bahkanian
nationalist group who is
upset with Morovia’s
continued raids on Bahkan.
Morovia immediately
declares war on Bahkan
despite Bahkan’s claims that
they did not know about the
assassination plans.
Based on the new information, re-evaluate your
country’s position
Do you want to continue alliances? Start new
ones?
What do you want to do with your military?
Do you want to attack another country?
► This game simulated the events that occurred at the beginning of World War I.
 Bahkan = Serbia
 Caldonia = Great Britain
