Project Management Training Program
The interest and relevance of project management has increased dramatically over the past decade. It is one of
the fastest growing professions and was predicted by the Australian Federal Government to be the top career
for 2010. Organisations are realising that more and more of their work consists of projects, which require a
formal management approach – project management.
AIM:
The aim for this project management training program is to provide a solid understanding of core project
management processes.
STRUCTURE:
The program consists of 4 consecutive sessions held weekly, each session running 9:00 – 12:00noon.
The program is practical, interactive and hands-on. Participants will be able to immediately apply what is learnt!
CONTENTS:
PROJECTS & PROJECT MANAGEMENT - What is a project? What is project management? PMI Project
Management Body of Knowledge; Project life cycle
SCOPE MANAGEMENT - Scope Planning – project goal, purpose, deliverables, inputs; Scope Definition –
work breakdown structure; Scope Change Control
TIME MANAGEMENT - Defining activities; Sequencing activities; Duration of activities; Start/Finish & Critical
path; Schedule Control
COST MANAGEMENT - Cost Estimates – project applications, inputs, types, methods; Cost Control
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Defining authority, responsibility, roles, influence of organisational
structures, Linear Responsibility Chart
COMMUNICATION AND STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT - Communication Plan; Stakeholder Management Plan
PROCUREMENT MANAGEMENT - Make or Buy Analysis; Tendering Documentation; Selection of Contractor
RISK MANAGEMENT - Identifying risks, analysing risks, managing risks
COST:
Curtin Staff Members: $420 (no GST) includes all materials and refreshments.
Non Staff Members : $695.00 (including GST)

About the Presenter – David Baccarini
David is Associate Professor in Project Management at Curtin University of
Technology and Head of Department, HUM SOBE Department of Construction
Management, Faculty of Humanities.
He formulated the Master of Project Management program at Curtin University. He
is the Course Coordinator for this program and lectures in several units.
David was a key member of a small team that has introduced a project management
methodology within the IT department of Curtin University. His teaching abilities
have been recognised by various awards, such as Curtin’s Excellence & Innovation in Teaching Award
(2004); Finalist, National Australian Awards for University Teaching (2004; 2005); Curtin’s Team of the
Quarter Award (2003) and Curtin’s Innovative Teaching Practice Award (2002)
David has conducted numerous in-house training programs for such organisations as Curtin University
of Technology, WA Dept. of Justice, City of Swan, Burswood International Resort, City of Gosnells, City
of Swan, Dept of Housing and Works, WA Dept of Education & Training, WA Dept. of Agriculture,
Canning Branch of General Practice, Australand, Peet & Co, CSR, LandCorp, Water Corporation,
Western Power, Institute for Child Health Research, East Perth Redevelopment Authority, Museum of
Western Australia, Brown & Root Engineering and AUSAID.
