Company Profiles Roxtec International AB Roxtec – innovative sealing solutions Roxtec is the world’s largest manufacturer of modular-based cable and pipe transits for the shipbuilding and naval industries. All over the world, shipbuilders use Roxtec sealing solutions to ensure safety, efficiency and long-term operational reliability. Recently Roxtec acquired Sleev-it Fire Systems Ltd. and thereby took one step further in broadening its product range. Roxtec was founded in Sweden in 1990 with the invention of Multidiameter™, a flexible solution based on sealing modules with removable layers. It revolutionized the complicated process of cable and pipe installation, allowing designers and users to perform their tasks without knowing the size or number of cables in advance. The solution enables sealing of cables and pipes of various sizes and materials, which minimizes the need for different parts and reduces installation time. It makes planning easier and simplifies the work of designers and installers. Modular-based cable and pipe seals The Roxtec sealing system is a modular-based mechanical sealing solution. It is available for various applications – and for multiple as well as single pipe penetrations. With six basic sealing blocks, it is possible to seal cables and pipes from 4mm to 99mm in diameter. The sealing modules are inserted around the cables or pipes in frames that are either welded or bolted into the structure. The frames are available in different shapes, materials and sizes for different applications. The system is then sealed with a compression unit, a Roxtec wedge, or an integrated compression unit, which tightly compresses the modules. For cables, steel pipes and plastic pipes The Roxtec sealing system is used to seal all types of penetrating cables, steel pipes and plastic pipes passing through bulkheads and decks, in and between different sections and constructions such as machine rooms, storage rooms, living compartments and the bridge. It is also used in various types of cabinets and enclosures. Roxtec seals ensure protection against, for example, fire, water, gas and electro-magnetic interference. The system is well suited for sealing of hydraulic pipes, since the rubber absorbs vibrations. It is a flexible and high quality sealing system designed to withstand very tough conditions. Tested and certified Roxtec products are tested and approved for use in A class and H class-rated sections according to IMO Resolution A.754 (18) and SOLAS. The Roxtec sealing system is also approved according to different military standards in various countries. Roxtec products are certified by a wide range of classification societies such as Lloyd’s, ABS, Bureau Veritas and DNV. Roxtec benefits Fast deliveries and local support: Roxtec is present worldwide to ensure product availability and local service and support Quick and easy installation: there is no need to know the exact dimension of each cable, because as each module can handle a variety of cable sizes, the installations can be finished right away; the wedge, which is used to compress the modules and close the penetration, is quick and easy to install Capacity for future expansion: thanks to the Roxtec invention Multidiameter™, it is possible to add extra capacity for cables and pipes from the start; new cables or pipes can easily be added without adding any further items or any need for welding, and the seal can be re-opened and closed repeatedly without jeopardizing integrity or safety. Roxtec worldwide Roxtec serves and supports customers in more than 70 markets through 21 subsidiaries and a network of local distributors. Roxtec sales and support staff around the world help customers find the solution that corresponds to their specific needs. The extensive R&D resources of Roxtec, with design departments and test labs, give the company an opportunity to continuously perform tests, develop products and improve solutions. Roxtec acquires Sleev-It The recent acquisition of Sleev-it Fire Systems Ltd. extends the Roxtec product range and makes Roxtec even stronger as supplier. Through the integration of Sleev-It, Roxtec has added light-weight fire penetration seals to its product portfolio. Roxtec can now offer more fire penetration seals, transition collars and other solutions for plastic pipes and become more complete as provider of sealing solutions. Roxtec can thereby further help shipyards with new builds as well as retrofit projects. Roxtec marine penetration seals cover the needs of the entire ship, from below the waterline up to the passengers’ cabins. Our motto became “The straight way”, and this has now extended from a product concept to a business philosophy. Our range has grown substantially to include fans, air curtains and heating products. With our customers in focus our core values are quality, availability and the ability to deliver on time, every time. With these our mission is with simplicity and reliability; develop, manufacture and market energy efficient ventilation products. From the beginning our company reported an operating profit every year since the start. During the last 10 years, our average annual growth in net sales has been 15 percent. We have never been afraid of investing in development and acquisitions – it is an important part of our success and makes us long-term competitive. Our focus is on developing innovative and energy efficient products – that are easy to select and simple to install and maintain. Systemair’s range has been continuously developed and divides in two product areas, comfort ventilation and safety ventilation. Comfort ventilation comprises fans, air handling units, products for air distribution, air curtains and heating products. Safety ventilation comprises fire safety as well as garage and tunnel ventilation. Today buildings account for about 40 percent of total energy usage in Europe. Ventilation of buildings accounts for a significant portion of this energy, in the form of energy for operating fans and the losses when heated air is exhausted and replaced with cold air. One of the targets in the Eu climate and energy package is for energy efficiency to increase 20 percent by the year 2020. To reach that target, requirements for existing buildings and new construction will be steadily tightened. it will become compulsory to build “climate-smart” and to take into account each building’s energy consumption after renovation. Climate-smart buildings are near-zero energy buildings, which mean energy saving buildings that largely use renewable energy and so called passive houses, without traditional heating systems. In both cases, buildings are built as airtight as possible, which makes stringent demands on efficient ventilation. For several years, our strategy has been to develop energy efficient products with built-in energy recovery and fans using EC technology to make up a portfolio that fully satisfies the requirements of today and tomorrow. The group manufactures products in 14 production facilities in Europe, north America and Asia, with a total manufacturing floor space of 190,000 m2. These are modern plants that we continuously update and expand to maintain the high quality of machinery and equipment. Two of Systemair’s facilities are located in Sweden, including our main facility located in Skinnskatteberg. Our other facilities are located in Denmark, Norway, Germany, Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, India, Malaysia, USA and Canada. Systemair puts significant assets on development of energy efficient, environment friendly and user friendly ventilation products. We have five development centers located in Sweden, Germany, Canada, Slovakia and the U.S. at our disposal, and our more than 80 engineers form 13 development teams on three continents all working with product development. With our broad geographic reach, we can carefully follow current trends in various parts of the world. We also actively influence future trends by taking part in the specification of new International and national standards. The development centre in Skinnskatteberg is one of Europe’s most modern facilities for measuring air flow, sound levels and energy consumption. One of the facilities in the centre is an acoustic room, with background noise levels lower than what the human ear can perceive it also includes a climate chamber with the possibility to simulate outdoor temperatures down to –20°C. The centre is accredited by AMCA (air movement and Control association international, Inc) for measuring of air and acoustic performance. In our strategy, availability is a key dimension of our competitive advantage. We hold stock of a considerable part of our range and can deliver within 24 hours from local stock in Europe and from our central warehouses within 72 hours. The Group has built up an efficient production and logistical organization in which the centralized and local warehousing facilities are integrated with each other via the shared ERP system. In this way, we can capitalize on the advantages in volume because our factories specialize in different product areas. We have managed well compared to many of our competitors and boosted our market shares on several markets. The growth initiatives have continued, through company acquisitions. Our aim is to achieve long-term international growth. As the emphasis on the indoor environment has grown, the group has sharpened its market strategy vis-à-vis ventilation contractors, distributors and consultants in the indoor climate sector. The group has a wide customer base with customers of different sizes in many markets. We sell to 100 countries in the world. The 10 biggest customers currently accounts for 7 percent of sales. This broad and geographically diverse customer base offers considerable stability and reduces our exposure to fluctuations in individual economies. The group’s customers are primarily ventilation contractors and distributors of ventilation and electrical products. Ventilation consultants are another key target group indirectly, as they specify the products to be installed.
