Use your highlighters/or colored pencils to highlight the
following: title, AG (attention grabber), introduction of characters
and setting, setting up the problem, attempting to solve the
problem, solving the problem, and yo-yo ending (should match style of your AG).
Draw an arrow to label them (next to what you have highlighted). Find 10 words
that are good vocabulary choices and circle them with a grading pen. Draw boxes
around examples of voice (mood) with your grading pen. Did you tell me where
you went and what activities that you did? Did you skip a line between
paragraphs? If you didn’t, put a note in the margin. Put them back in the basket
when finished.
12-2 Notes Thesis and Topic Sentences
Another name for an opinion statement is a thesis statement.
Your paper will have 1 thesis statement and 3 topic sentences.
1. What is the difference between a thesis statement and a topic sentence?
A thesis statement tells what the entire essay is about.
A topic sentence tells what a body paragraph is about.
2. Where are thesis statements and topic sentences usually located?
The thesis statement is usually located at the end of the introduction in
paragraph one.
A topic sentence is usually located at the beginning of a body paragraph.
