Purpose of Job
The Prison Team Leader will support the Prison Project Manager in leading
the day to day delivery services through the management of staff,
volunteers and peer mentors across bases within North Lancashire,
working closely with clinicians and multi-disciplinary staff team. The
Service will provide a range of harm minimisation services, clinical
treatment, structured psycho-social intervention services to SU’s based
within the custodial setting of HMP Kirkham. You will also liaise with the
team leaders and managers to ensure clear routes into the community
engagement and DIP team. The post holder’s remit is to create a vibrant,
outcome focussed custody based recovery culture and provide a constant
stimulus for improving services in a learning environment.

 Provide management and direction under guidance from the
Prison Project Manager to the Inspire North Lancashire service

Provide regular updates the Prison Project Manager

Provide line management within the Inspire team for staff and
volunteers

Ensure performance is high and targets are achieved

Ensure a seamless route from custody to release

Ensure a range of custody based programme and PSI
innervations are delivered

Work with custodial clinical delivery
Below is a non- exclusive list of key activities.

To work as a member of the management team and contribute to the
development of the North Lancashire Inspire integrated Recovery
service to provide easily accessible, non-judgemental, and confidential
services, which support prisoners in reducing harm, engaging with
treatment and moving towards recovery with a focus on those within
the custody setting in North Lancs

To coordinate and deliver the activities of the custody service, including
management of the staff team, sessional workers and volunteers, so
that the service runs efficiently and effectively, making the best
possible use of financial and human resources.

To provide line management, supervision and leadership to achieve
performance outcomes to a Inspire staff, peer mentors and volunteers

To maintain excellent communication with staff, management and key
stakeholders

To ensure that constructive, positive and supportive relationships are
maintained with our partners, both internal and external to CRI

To ensure effective performance management through data collection,
reporting and analysis working with the service data analyst and
prisons manager

To ensure the timely and accurate collection and recording of specified
data

To be prepared to participate in and make use of supervision, appraisal
and other learning and development opportunities in line with CRI
policies.

To work closely with medical staff employed by CRI or that work in
partnership with the service.

To support the Prison Project Manager in the monitoring and
evaluations of the service offered to prisoners and actively engage,
involve and consult with prisoners regarding on-going service
development.

To promote the service within the prison settings

To ensure robust processes are in place from prison to community

To ensure the service has an effective rota for service delivery


Person Specification
Essential criteria:
 Experience of working within a custodial substance misuse services (including alcohol) with an
understanding of community services and ability to deliver quality services.
 Knowledge of the issues facing drug & alcohol offenders including housing, family and financial.
 A recognised qualification in health and social care or currently working towards completion
 Experience of staff supervision
 The ability to lead a team
 Excellent knowledge of drugs and alcohol and their effects
 The ability to liaise effectively with custodial partners and other agencies
 Knowledge of the needs of different category of offenders in relation to substance misuse
 Knowledge of mental health issues
 The ability to work to output and financial constraints and deadlines
 The ability to form, sustain and disengage from professional relationships with offenders
 The ability to foster new partnerships and to maintain constructive relationships with prison and
partner agencies
 The ability to maintain professional boundaries with all stakeholders
 Knowledge of a range of psychosocial and clinical interventions, including Motivational
interviewing techniques and ITEP
