Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. Let
them praise the name of the LORD, for he commanded and they were

exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. He has raised
up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from

All Things Bright and Beautiful
J. Rutter
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all,
Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.
The purple headed mountains, the river running by, The sunset and the morning that brightens up the sky,
The cold wind in the winter, the pleasant summer sun, The ripe fruits in the garden, He made them every one.
He gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell,
How great is God Almighty Who has made all things well.

Leader: O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you,
my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no
water.
All:
I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your
glory.
Leader: Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.
All:
I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my
hands.
Leader: My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips
my mouth will praise you.
All: On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of
the night.
Leader: Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.
All: My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
Leader: They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the
depths of the earth.
5
All: They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals.
Leader: But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God’s name will
praise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the
deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was
evening, and there was morning—the first day.
And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water
from water.”
So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the
water above it. And it was so.
God called the expanse “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—
the second day.
And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let
dry ground appear.” And it was so.
God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.”
And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees
on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And
it was so.

The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and
trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it
was good.
And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day
from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,
and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it
was so.
God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser
light to govern the night. He also made the stars.
God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,
to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God
saw that it was good.
And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above
the earth across the expanse of the sky.”
So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing
with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird
according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the
water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”
And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds:
livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each
according to its kind.” And it was so.
God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to
their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their
kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go
hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.
But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.
All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never
drive away.
For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who
sent me.
And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given
me, but raise them up at the last day.
For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall
have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”
At this the Jews began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that
came down from heaven.”
They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?
How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
“Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered.
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise
him up at the last day.
It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to
the Father and learns from him comes to me.
No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the
Father.
I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.
I am the bread of life.
Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died.
But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not
die.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he
will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us
his flesh to eat?”
Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and
drink his blood, you have no life in you.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at
the last day.
For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds
on me will live because of me.

This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died,
but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Welcome
The Lord’s Day
Sunday, September 16, 2012
Rev. Mark G. Johnston, Senior Pastor
Welcome to Proclamation Presbyterian Church, a congregation committed to the
historic Christian faith. We believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word
of God that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became man, was crucified as
the atoning sacrifice for the sins of His people, on the third day was raised from the
dead, and one day will come again in power and great glory. Our goal is to glorify
God by teaching His Word and encouraging His people to be an engaging influence
to the culture.
If you are visiting with us, please sign your name and address on the Service of
Friendship pad so that we can greet you personally. We also encourage you to come
to the Welcome Counter in the narthex after the service. Here you can have your
questions answered, get help in finding your way around the buildings, and pick up
resources from the various ministries of the church.
During our worship time, please remember that we come to worship a Holy God
who gives us the grace to live for Him. Kindly turn all cell phones and pagers to
either the “off” or “vibrate” position during the service. While children of all ages
are warmly welcomed in our worship service, for your comfort and convenience, we
have a “crying room” for families with nursing infants and/or active babies located
in the right rear of the sanctuary. Children 7 years of age and younger are invited to
take part in Children’s Church. Also, there are large print Bibles and hearing assist
devices available in the narthex.

Upcoming at Yale - We are engaging with the new crop of scholars and returning disciples at
Yale. The opening of the fall semester always feels anaerobic—reaching out to new students;
reconnecting with old. We kicked off the year with a cookout on Sept. 7 th. The cookout is
followed by three consecutive Sunday lunch conversations on The Calling of the Christian Scholar
in the Academy. The soups for the occasion are so good, we’d likely have a crowd irrespective of
the topic but given the rich conversations that lingers long into the afternoon it is evident the
issue is a burning one for Christians at Yale. The three Sunday lunch conversations will culminate
with a retreat (Sept. 29) at Killam’s Point just 20 minutes from campus but on the scenic
Connecticut shoreline seemingly a world away from the bustle of Yale. Here we hope students
will catch a vision for what it means to be a faithful, fruitful disciples of Christ within the
academy and within their particular discipline. Pray that these events which launch our year
would be used of God to help establish new students in convictions and patterns which will
glorify God and bear a rich harvest within and around them and rekindle the same in the
students who return.
