Pre-Category “Young Talents
Primary School
Junior School
Senior School/College
Open Category
- Born in year 2007 and younger
- Born in year 2003 and younger
- Born in year 1999 and younger
- Born in year 1995 and younger
- No age limit
COMPETITION PROCEDURES












This competition is open to pianists from all nationalities.
All pieces must be performed from memory.
A change to any of the chosen repertoire stated in the
Application Form is NOT allowed.
A performance may be stopped prior to or during the Competition
upon the decision of the Jury.
In Pre-Category “Young Talents” ONLY three (3) winners will
qualify.
In other categories, ONLY six (6) candidates from the Preliminary
Stage will advance to Semi-final Stage; no more than three (3)
candidates from Semi-final Stage will advance to Final Stage.
Jury’s decision is final, and no appeal will be entertained.
Competitors should not have any communication with members
of the Jury. Any such attempt, the competitor(s) will be
disqualified from the Competition.
All decisions concerning the Competition will remain the
responsibility of the Organizing Committee of the 6th ASEAN
International Chopin Piano Competition. The Organizing
Committee reserves the right to make all final decisions in the
event of any dispute.
The 6th ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition has sole
rights over all competition performances, recordings, and or
films. No fee shall be paid to the competitor in the event of their
performance or any recording or broadcast made.
The 6th ASEAN International Chopin Piano Competition will
be held at Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, from 7th-13th
December 2015.
A schedule for the Competition will be announced at a later date.
All performances are open to the public.
Prizes:
- All accepted participants will receive a ‘Certificate of
Participation’.
- All finalists will be awarded with a certificate and cash prize.
REPERTOIRE FOR ALL CATEGORIES
PRE-CATEGORY “YOUNG TALENTS” (born in year 2007 and younger)
This category (to discover young and gifted piano talents) will have only ONE (1)
stage.
Preliminary Stage:
(A) Two Virtuosic Etudes – free choice from the following composers:C.Czerny - Op 299 books 3 or 4, Op 740
F. Chopin – Op 10 and Op 25
M.Moszkowski – Op 72
F. Liszt, F. Mendelsshon, A.Scriabin, C.Debussy, S.Prokofiev
Audition judging:
Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of a piece (free choice) together with the
application documents.
(B) J.S.Bach – Two contrasting dances from French Suites, English Suites or
Partitas or G.F.Handel – Two contrasting movements from any of the suites
Repertoire:
A free selection of two or three pieces from different eras (between 6 -8 minutes).
(C) First movement ( or second and third movements) from Sonata, or Variations
(complete) from Classical era.
(A+B+C not more than 25 minutes)
PRIMARY SCHOOL (born in year 2003 and younger)
Semi-final Stage:

Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of a piece (free choice) fom the
Preliminary Stage repertoire together with the application documents.
Compose your own recital with pieces by F. Chopin (not more than 20 minutes).
Preliminary Stage;
One Piano Concerto from composers listed below:* J.S.Bach – Piano Concerto in D Minor (all movements)
* W.A.Mozart – Piano Concerto KV 413, KV 414, KV 415 (all movements)
(A) One virtuosic Etude – free choice from the following composers:M. Clementi, C. Czerny, F. Liszt Op 1, F. Chopin, F. Mendelsshon, R.
Schummann, M. Moszkowski, A. Loeshorn, A. Arenski.
(B) J. S. Bach – a free choice of one piece of the Two-part Inventions or
from the Sinfonias.
(C) First movement of a Sonatine or Classical Sonata or Rondeau or
Variations from the Classical era.
(A+B+C between 8 – 15 minutes)
Semi-final Stage:
Compose your own recital with pieces by F.Chopin – one Waltz or Impromptu to be
included
(between 12 – 15 minutes)
Final Stage:
One Piano Concerto from composers listed below:*J.S.Bach – Piano Concerto in F Minor – all movements
* T.Giordani – Piano Concerto in C Major No. 23 – all movements
* J.Haydn – Piano Concerto in D Major Hob XVIII/11 – first or second and
third movements
* W.A.Mozart – Piano Concertos: KV 413, KV 414, KV 415 first movement
Only with Cadenza.
Final Stage:
SENIOR SCHOOL/COOLEGE (born in year 1995 and younger)
Audition judging:
Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of a piece (free choice) from the
Preliminary Stage repertoire together with the application documents.
Preliminary Stage:
(A) Two virtuosic etudes
* One Etude by F. Chopin – from Op. 10 or Op. 25
* One Etude (free choice) by the following composers:B, Bartok, C. Debussy, F. Liszt, F, Mendelssohn, A. Scriabin,
S.Rachmaninov, S. Prokofiev
(B) J.S.Bach – a pair of one Prelude and Fugue (3 or 4 voices) from Well Tempered
Clavier
(C) A first movement or whole Sonata from the following composers:J. Haydn, W. A. Mozart, M. Clementi, L. van Beethoven, F. Schubert,
R.Schumann, E. Grieg
(A+B+C upto 30 minutes)
Semi-final Stage:
(A) Compose your own recital with pieces by F. Chopin -between 15-20 minutes
JUNIOR SCHOOL (born in year 1999 and younger)
Audition judging:
Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of a piece (free choice) from the
Preliminary Stage repertoire together with the application documents.
(B) Free choice of a piece fromRomantic or 20th Century era - between 6-9
minutes)
(C) A commissioned piece by a Malaysian composer - about 5 minutes
(this piece will be sent to the candidates three months prior to the competition).
Final Stage:
One piece:
F. Chopin – A free choice of one piano Concerto, first movement only
No. 1 op. 11 in E Minor, No. 2 op. 21 in F Minor or
F. Chopin – Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brilliant Op.22
OPEN CATEGORY (no age limit)
Audition judging:
Each candidate is to submit a DVD recording of one (1) F.Chopin Etude from the
Preliminary Stage repertoire, and one (1) movement of a Sonata, together with the
application documents.
REGISTRATION FEE (non-refundable)
A Participant may participate in more than one category by submitting a separate
Application Form together with the Registration Fee for each category.

(C) A free choice of one (1) piece by a composer from the 20th/21st Century (about 610 minutes)
(A+B+C maximum 30 minutes)
Semi-final Stage;
(A) a Sonata (all movements) from one of the following composers:W.A.Mozart, L.van Beethoven, M. Clementi, F. Chopin, F. Mendelssohn,
F. Schubert, R. Schumann
(B) F. Chopin – Compose your own recital with pieces by F. Chopin including one of
the Ballades or Barcarola Op.60 -about 15-20 minutes
(C) A commissioned piece from a Malaysian composer – about 5 minutes
(this piece will be sent to the candidate three months prior to the competition)
Final Stage:
F-Chopin – One of the Piano Concertos (all movements)
No. 1 Op.11 in E Minor or No. 2 Op. 21 in Fminor
** The Organizing Committee of the 6th ASEAN International Chopin Piano
Competition will arrange a chamber ensemble / pianist for the Concerto
performances of Finalists. (You can, however, appoint your own pianist for
accompaniment).

CLOSING DATE: All Appilication Forms together with the Registration Fee must
reach Persatuan Chopin Malaysia by 15th June 2015. Persatuan Chopin Malaysia
reserves the right to NOT accept late entries.
The following documens must be submitted with application forms:
* 6 pieces glossy photograph (4cm x 3cm size)
* A non-refundable Registration Fee
* Registration Fee & Participation Fee must be paid by bank cheque or bank draft
made payable to Persatuan Chopin Malaysia
* A photocopy of the International Passport for ALL foreign participants
* A photocopy of the Birth Certificate or Identity Card for Malaysians
* A recommendation letter form the School / Teacher
* A DVD recording of the pieces from the Preliminary Stage for audition judging
Important notes:
1. Incomplete application forms and application forms submitted without the
registration fees and related requested documents will not be processed.
2. Application forms must be completed with clear handwriting. Intelligible
Forms will not be accepted.
3. Name of participant in the Application Froms must be the same as the given
name in the Identity Card (NRIC) for Malaysians, and International Passport
for foreign participants.
4. Results of the Audition Judging will be announced on Persatuan Chopin
Malaysia’s website and FaceBook by 15th July 2015.
5. Applicants who are accepted after the Audition Judging are obliged to pay
The Participation Fee by/before 5th August 2015. If no payment is received
by the dateline, the applicants will be automatically disqualified from the
Competition.
