Accounting & Information Team Manager (Controller) Job Summary:
The Accounting & Information Team Manager at C & D Lumber Co. is a top level manager
who fills the role of a controller and is responsible for the leadership and management of
the Accounting and Information team (A & I Team) personnel and processes. The
Accounting & Information Team Manager is to be an effective part of the Team that
manages C & D lumber Co.’s accounting, information system and human resource functions
in an interdependent and profitable manner.
The Accounting & Information Team Manager and appropriate A & I Team members have
the primary responsibility for managing our financial relationships and financial
accounting & reporting processes.
1. A summary of the A & I Team Manager responsibilities incudes:
a. The Accounting & Information Team Manager must be an effective participant in
our management team:

Works effectively with other managers and teams to ensure systems of internal
control are adequate to properly safeguard C & D's assets.
Ensures financial and managerial reporting is timely and systems properly
capture, compile and report information to ensure financial statements are
prepared consistent with GAAP and managerial reports convey desired
information.
Analyzes, interprets and effectively communicates financial information to help
the management team focus on long-term profitability, operating expenses,
inefficiencies and opportunities to strengthen our financial position.
Effectively analyzes and communicates cost paybacks or return on investment for
capital improvement projects.
Develops and communicates budget and cash flow projections as needed.
Works closely with the General Manager to analyze operating scenarios, based on
current market conditions, to determine best practices and/or best economic
choices for the management team and executive committee to consider.

Effectively negotiates and manages financing/borrowing arrangements and
relationships.
Invests short term assets to maintain proper cash balances and to take advantage
of safe investment opportunities.
Effectively manages the structure of the company's balance sheet to ensure proper
alignment of assets and liabilities, and to ensure the Company's assets are
managed consistent with the management team’s expectations.
Effectively negotiates and manages relationships with outside accounting, tax and
other professional service providers.
Effectively manages risk management activities including property & casualty
insurance, workers compensation and company credit policies.
Effectively manages employee benefits including health, dental, life, voluntary
AD&D insurances; FSA, HRA accounting, and C & D's Employee retirement plan.
b. The Accounting & Information Team Manager is an effective human resources
manager:




Demonstrates a commitment to human resource management – The philosophy,
policies, procedures, and practices related to the management of people within our
organization.
Continually assesses the A & I Team’s human resources needs based on our
organizational and team goals and makes plans to ensure we have a competent
and stable work force to meet our goals.
Specifies the tasks to be performed by A & I Team employees and establishes
rules, schedules and effective working conditions for employees to perform their
tasks.
Determines and sets wages and wage add-ons for team members fairly and in a
manner that is consistent with our wage and compensation guidelines.

Accounting & Information Team Manager Expectations
C & D Lumber Management Structure Overview
A key component of C & D’s vision is “We are committed to shared leadership built on
courage, respect and integrity.” This element of our vision encompasses our desire to
involve all appropriate resources in the leadership, management and decision making
processes that we utilize at all levels in the organization.
Coupled with this element of our vision is the belief that people are C & D’s most valuable
asset and should be treated fairly and with respect at all times. This belief is at the core of
our management style and is non-negotiable for those who have a desire to be a part of C &
D Lumber Co’s leadership structure.
Our desire is to focus on processes that share leadership and decision making and to
minimize the modeling of “top down, command decision” style of management. Throughout
the organization our goal is to use a consensus decision making model to make decisions so
that appropriate people are involved in appropriate decisions.
Our management structure consists of the board of directors, the general manager, and the
management team. These teams and individuals are charged with the responsibility of
working effectively together to provide vision, leadership, direction, oversight and
accountability to C & D Lumber Co.
The board of directors is made up of the shareholders and the general manager. The
management team consists of the general manager, marketing manager, maintenance
manager, manufacturing manager, timber manager, and the accounting & information
team manager.
Accounting & Information Team Manager Job Expectations:
The Accounting & Information Team Manager at C & D Lumber Co. is responsible for the
leadership and management of the Accounting and Information team (A & I Team)
personnel and processes. The Accounting & Information Team Manager and appropriate A
& I team members have the primary responsibility for managing our financial relationships
and our financial accounting & reporting processes. This includes regulatory reporting,
bank relationships, oversight of accounting processes, and providing leadership in our risk
management process which involve insurance, tax’s, and SAIF & workers compensation
issues. In addition the Accounting & Information Team Manager is responsible to work
with other managers to set appropriate credit limits, and working with Silver Butte on
financial issues as appropriate. This team provides the primary accounting functions at C & D
Lumber.
The goal of the Accounting & Information Team Manager is to be an effective part of the
management team that manages C & D lumber Co. in an interdependent and profitable
manner. The Accounting & Information Team Manager must provide effective leadership
while managing the human resources in the A & I team in a way that empowers the A & I

team employees to achieve excellence in areas of safety, customer service, quality
assurance, team work, efficient productivity and personal growth.
The following are the desired results that the Accounting & Information Team Manager is
expected to achieve and/or consistently demonstrate. Below the desired results are the

learning and provides positive modeling to the manufacturing team that supports our goal

2. Guidelines:
a) Employees of C & D Lumber Company in a leadership position are responsible to achieve
the results above. While the desired results will be monitored the methods and systems are
up to the individual.
b) All systems or methods that are used to achieve the desired results must be consistent
with C & D’s values, beliefs and mission.
c) Leaders must treat people fairly and honestly.
d) Leaders are responsible to take the initiative to do what is necessary to achieve the desired
results. Leaders have the freedom and flexibility to work towards these results in a variety

of ways in order to utilize their own styles, strengths and wisdom as long as the systems
are consistent with all other guidelines.
e) Leaders must be proactive at monitoring their personal conduct and modeling in a manner

4. Accountability:
a) All evaluations on the performance of employees who are responsible for the leadership of
C & D Lumber Co. will include a review of this agreement. The review will include
feedback from peers, internal customers, employees, and external customers where
possible.
b) All performance evaluations will also include an opportunity for individuals to do a “self
evaluation” of their performance.
c) Managers will be responsible to provide the management team information on their
learning, goals and future expectations or plans that are made as a result of a formal
evaluation.
5. Consequences:
a) If we achieve the desired results we will grow a self-directed, empowered and learning
work force that will allow for long term, profitable employment for all stakeholders.
b) Leaders who are successful at achieving these desired results will be eligible for earning
the tops of their wage increases and any profit sharing opportunities they have available.
c) Leaders who are unsuccessful at achieving these desired results will not be able to
continue their employment in leadership role.

Manage and work with the A & I team to maintain optimum operating costs
based on operating mode. This includes manpower, overtime, vacation schedules,
non-value added time and schedules.

eliminate non- value added time and create optimum operation efficiency.
