-CHINA-
By Joonyon Park
Introduction

China is a humongous country in East Asia. In
fact, it’s the 3rd biggest country in the world.
As I go over some of China’s features and
events (that you’ll probably know) you’ll learn
more about China. Now you’re going to ride a
informational time machine that will show you
some basic things of China.
Here we go!~~
Land and Water

Wow, we’re flying over China (imagine)!
China has plateaus and mountains such
as the Plateau of Tibet and Mt. Everest.
They were formed when India collided into
China. The Himalayas doesn’t only include
Mt. Everest but also includes other
breath-taking high mountains.
Land and Water
Even though China has a very high
population, there are places that people
nearly don’t live at. For example, the
southwestern part of China doesn’t really
have people living there because it’s full of
mountains than rivers ( the Yangzi and the
Huang He) and fertile to
farm and live.
Climate and Vegetation

Here are guides and facts for you to
understand more about China. The northern
part of China is dry and the range between
temperatures are very large.
China has monsoons and typhoons during
summer which are winds and storms. China
also has a lot of plants growing after rain.
However, the rivers make the North China
Plain a better
place to live.
Climate and Vegetation

Now you mostly know what China is but
there’s much more. Because the Huang
He (one of the rivers) floods, it makes
China sad or when it helps to grow crops
like rice, it’s a blessing.
That tells us that the weather is important
for China.
Natural Resources

Before we dive into time, you have to learn
a little more about China. China has a lot
of natural resources such as copper, tin,
iron, and of course oil. The rivers are also
sources of food since fresh fish can be
caught there. However,
China farms by using terraces and simply
try many ways to farm
usefully and easily.
Historic Traditions

Now we’re talking about time! Let’s go to
China in 500 B.C. when Confucius was living.
Confucius made China go smoother than
usual because he taught people that they
have responsibility and duties.
We can go to 600 B.C. and see the Great
Wall of China being built but let’s stick with
China’s facts and stuff such as
China inventing a lot of things
(paper, gunpowder, etc.).
Historic Traditions
China believes that their civilization is the
best of the best since, like I said, inventing
various of things and making discoveries
in medicine and mathematics. They were
ruled by an emperor which is described by
dynasties. Some of the next page will
show you the
major dynasties.
Historic Traditions

Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming,
and Qing were the major dynasties of
China through 1700 B.C. to 1911 A.D.
In 1911 the rules of emperors ended and
republic started. However, the civil war in
1949 was won by the Communists which
meant that communism
spread over China.
People and Cultures
I’ll tell you little more about China. China
has ethnic groups that divides it into
groups. Almost 90% of China follows the
Han and there are 55 other minority
groups that all have
different dialects.
People and Cultures

China made major changes such as
creating communes which most of the
citizens didn’t like.
First, farmers had to work in a tiny field
together which made China suffer with
food storages. Second, people were
supposed to have less than one child (try
marry in the late 20’s). Next, woman were
treated better and finally,
they mixed old and new
traditions.
Transformation

As we nearly finished the time ‘field trip’ I’ll
explain something else for you about China.
There were problems in China and citizens were
terribly poor because of Mao.
Mao Zedong (leader) tried many ways to make
China a better but made it
much worse. For example, the
Red Guards beat up
famous people
and destroyed
buildings.
Transformation

Let’s go to Taiwan for a minute. After the
Nationalists came to Taiwan, they
succeeded by following free enterprise
which meant you could get your own jobs.
During Mao’s policies, relationships with
countries weren’t that friendly but
after he died, there was a new
leader (Xiaoping) and China
became better and better.
Transformation

This is the last minute for our trip and I
hope I was a help. These days, China has
better relationships with nations and is
selling products to the world. Still on the
other hand, the government kills people
and nations ask why they treat people so
poorly.
However in a few months, there is going to
be an Olympic in Beijing and we’ll have to
wait to see what happens.
Well, Bye!
The
End
