Lesson Plan – Weather Quiz/Start Clothing
Span I
Learning Goal:
1) Students will review the targeted vocabulary for weather terms to prepare for taking a
quiz on weather.
2) Students will create a clothing display board by cutting out pictures of clothing from
magazines and labeling the articles of clothing.
Purpose of lesson: Introduce new clothing vocabulary to students to allow them to talk about the
weather during the unit.
Assess student learning of weather terms.
Modes of Communication:


Interpretive: Presentation of clothing
Presentational: Activity – making a clothing board
Self-starter: (5 mins) Three questions written on the whiteboard to be written in the cuadernos.
1. ¿Qué tiempo hace en el verano?
2. ¿Dónde hay muchas tormentas?
3. ¿Cuándo nieva en Provo?
Teacher can ask for volunteers to write the self-starter questions on the whiteboard. Teacher will
review each question.
Actividad #1 – Reviewing Activities vocabulary
After the self-starter, students will participate in a review activity with the mini whiteboards.
Teacher will say one of the vocabulary terms in English and the students will write the correct
term in Spanish on their whiteboards.
Other activity: each student is given both a green and a red card. Red means “hay” green means
“hace”
Teacher will say one of the vocabulary terms and students will raise either the green or red card
for whichever goes with it.
Activity #2 – Students will take the quiz on weather. Powerpoint pictures are on computer
for section III. Students who finish the quiz early can pick up a Pobre Ana book and read
chapters four and five while they silently wait for the rest of the class to finish.
*Slides for section III on the quiz are located on the computer under quiz slides. After about 10
minutes of starting the test, teacher can ask everyone to go to section III to work on those five
questions.
Activity #3 – Introduce new clothing vocabulary
Teacher will show presentation on clothing. Students will make flashcards during presentation
for new vocab.
Activity #4 – Flashcard game
Students will stay with their same partner and will put their desks together so that the students
are facing each other. Students will place one pencil between the two desks. Teacher will show
pictures of various types of weather and students will race to grab the pencil and give the correct
vocabulary term for the picture shown. Only the student with the pencil can make a guess. Each
correct guess counts as one point.
Activity #5 – Magazines
Students will create a clothing board as if they were creating an advertisement for selling
clothing. They will take scissors and glue and paste the pictures onto a piece of paper and give
each article a price.
