• When the early Manchu
rulers(统治者） came to
China proper, they
organized certain people,
mainly Manchu, into
“banners” (旗) and
called them “banner
people” (旗人),which

normally a one-piece
dress which, like-wise,
came to be called “qipao”
or “banner dress”
